FOUR RPGs GOING STRONG!

1. STARBASE 901
by Captain Kitara Malory (Krystina Stressman)

SB901 is thriving very well with all the characters and hustle and bustle of station life near the hostile Mulluran Empire. Our most recent plotlines have included an exchange of ambassadors with the Mullurans. Complicating matters is the fact that the Mulluran Ambassador happens to be the Captain's ex-husband. This has to be read to be believed! Then we also have a new hostile alien race (or so it seems at first), an illegal drug called 'dust', and slave trading! A recent Federation fact-finding tour included none other than Senator Spock (yes, it's who you think!) and culminated with the Mulluran conquest of the Naussicaans. And if that weren't enough, we also have two demons threatening the universe!

Future plots will include demons, the Mullurans, the new hostile aliens, diplomatic intrigue, a love virus, and much more! The USS Ronin is also on her way to SB901! Things are sure to continue to be very exciting!

2. USS LEVIATHAN
by Captain Aki Taybar (Ian Barker)

The USS Leviathan-A is still limping along and I have recently done a mass recruitment which so far has provided four new players. (I also lost a player to Jarrett and the Taurus a few weeks ago). Whether all of these will become regular players we will have to wait and see, so far only one has provided a post. If they don't then the time is fast approaching to bring down the curtain on the adventures of the Leviathan. Which would be a pity, because I believe that the next season could be one of the best and quite an interesting season. Obviously I would be disappointed to end the RPG, but without any support there is no way I can continue alone. Real life is the main reason for most of the problems, both with myself not having the time to sit down and write and with others suffering the same.

Currently the Leviathan is still on the trail of the mirror vessel and with every minute we get closer and closer to the final battle. Meanwhile, the crew of the ISS Leviathan are in such disarray with the senior staff plotting and back-stabbing each other, they may do the job for us. The two unknown elements are the Ferengi that the ISS Leviathan have been dealing with and the Romulans, who want revenge for the devastation they caused when they first arrived.

Even if the Leviathan does close, I have a back-up plan which I may introduce, but not before the USS Taurus gets itself establshed. This will give me time to recruit the right people to make it work.

I have only one more thing to say, the name Leviathan will go on within the DRF in one form or another.

3. USS TAURUS
by Commander AJ Buford (Jarrett Horswill)

The Taurus is about ready to leave to spacedock. Most of her crew is still arriving. Commander Buford awaits his orders patiently. Many positions open, including:

4. USS EAGLE
by Captain Nick Cutter (Rich Merk)

The Eagle is about halfway through her first real mission, a classic Trek plot about man vs. super-computer. Even as we speak, Captain Cutter and the entire crew are making their way on foot through the Forest of Sharp Teeth to the Tower of Kerona after being transported into a virtual reality ruled by the super-computer Kerona. With the help of the native population, a de-evolved Vulcanoid species, they must confront Kerona to escape its cyberspace world.

I have a few other ideas for future missions, one centered on a natural catastrophe of biblical proportions that threatens to destroy the entire Galaxy unless the crew of the Eagle can somehow figure out a solution; while the other will focus on the classic Trek species, the Gorn. Another idea - extremely vague at this point - will have the Eagle thrown into the far far future (a few hundred thousand years or so). What will people be like in 300,000 AD? Will there even be people? Will we have evolved into energy beings, or de-evolved into Morlocks?

Eagle posts are distributed through a mailing list system. If you want to get the posts in your inbox, visit the web site, go to the Join page and fill out the Mailing List form. You don't have to be part of the crew to read the posts!

THINGS TO COME . . .

A PIECE OF THE ACTION!

After years of enduring oppression and ridicule at the hands of the vile and evil denizens of the Internet RPGing world; years of rebuffing countless take-over attempts thinly veiled behind gracious offers to 'let' Burgosian Innovations (the former name of the Deep Range Fleet) merge with the bigger fleets; someone has finally asked for a piece of OUR action! A new RPG called the USS Armageddon requested information on joining the DRF. They said they had several other fleets to investigate as well, but since we're the best I'm sure they'll choose us. :-)

The Deep Range Fleet is also getting a bigger piece of advertising action. Thanks to aggressive advertising by the Taurus, Leviathan and Eagle, its getting so you can hardly visit a Trek-related site without seeing one of our nifty banner-exchange ads. As a result, we've had about a dozen brand new players apply to join the ranks of our ships in the last month or two. Thanks to the captains for their hard work and dedication!

SEMPER FI

Hang on to your combat boots! The Marines have landed at the DRF! The illustrious Drew Sniegowski has outdone himself and designed an entire new wing for the DRF web site - the DRF Marines section. Included are page after page of info on Marine weapons and equipment, space and ground vehicles, and armor - a real treat for all you armchair jarheads out there. :-)

If you've already seen the section, new pages have been recently added, so it might be time for a revisit. Drew is always working on it, so come back often. If you want to help out with contributions or suggestions, Drew's email is andrew_sniegowski@hotmail.com

AND NOW A WORD FROM JoVo
by Jovani Burgos, Founder of the DRF

I just want to say how happy I am to see how this RPG, regardless of its bad times, has been the greatest example of RPGness ever! Kudos to Krystina, who is doing a tremendous job with the Starbase. She is our first female captain, and one of our best! Definitely a better captain than me. ;-p She is definitely worthy of being the commanding officer of the RPG’s flagship. Yes!

I also think that somebody should make a cereal made of cheese.

CONTRIBUTIONS WANTED!

If you want to write something to be included in the next issue of the Inimitably Superfluous Deep Range Fleet Newsletter, please do so! I'm not picky - it can be about anything in the world! Just email it to me at richardmerk@msn.com
