Heims was the former Executive officer aboard the USS Ronin serving with the rank of Commander. However, he was relieved of duty by acting Commander Tricia McMillan who was acting under the direct orders of Captain Ryan Evans.

Once the crew of the Ronin recovered Captain Evans from a Proletarian Battlecruiser, Heims was charged with attempted mutiny, failure to obey a senior officer and endangering the lives of the thirty two crew and passengers of the USS Ronin.

Upon returning to the Alpha quadrant, Heims was formally charged with these offences and court marshalled. He was sentenced to life imprisonment on the penal planet Ceti-Alpha Five.

Heims escaped along with five former Starfleet officers, their whereabouts are currently unknown. Although not confirmed, it is suspected that these fugitives managed to 'steal' a Danube class runabout from a maintenance yard.
