Born Amelia Antaxia, she became joined with the symbiot Joxal in 2374 and became the ninth host.

The symbiont was implanted into Amelia by 'mistake' when Amelia managed to replace the selected host, taking on her identity. The 'true' host had recently been killed on a remote Trill colony. No-one bothered to double-check that the intended host was who they claimed they were.

Amelia had been waiting for a chance to become joined for over three years. She had almost completed the symbiont training, but was rejected when the selection council discovered that she had a neurological disorder that she'd managed to keep secret using highly experimental drugs.

Almost as soon as she became joined, she applied to Starfleet academy and managed to keep up her pretence for over ten years, becoming a skilled engineer. Her true identity was only discovered after an accident.

She was hit by a plasma conduit explosion and suffered severe chest injuries, which entailed the growing of new skin and muscle tissue. When her DNA was cross--checked, her true identity was revealed.

Under Trill law, the symbiont should have been extracted and returned to the birthing pools. This of course would have led to the death of both the symbiont and the host.

After ten years, there was no other way to achieve the separation, drug therapies could only be used on hosts who had been joined for less then six months, after that the symbiot and host were totally dependant on each other.

At her trial however, by using the Zhian'tara ceremony, the symbiont's former hosts (All eight of them) spoke in Amelia's defence. They had spent ten years joined with her and knew that her only real crime was the fact that she wanted to be joined.

The symbionts arguments persuaded the council to give Amelia a life sentence upon the understanding that once she died, the symbiont would be removed and returned to Trill. That sentence was to be served on the penal planet Ceti-Alpha Five.

Amelia escaped along with Benjamin Heims and four other former Starfleet officers, their whereabouts are currently unknown.
