Background

Morgan was born in 2368 on Earth's Titan colony to Jack Bacardi, a Federation diplomatic officer who married K'lara of the house of Durgon while posted to the Klingon Empire. Morgan holds citizenship in both the Federation and the Klingon Empire. Morgan's mother trained him in the use of the bat'leth, mek'leth, and dk'tagh in addition to his father's instruction in martial arts.

Feeling at odds with his environment, Morgan embraced his Klingon heritage and enlisted in the Klingon Defense Forces in 2370, at the outbreak of the Dominion War. Serving on the imperial battlecruiser Dark Vengeance as a tactical crewman, he was given the name puq'Duy'a' (ambassador's son), a derisive name which Morgan quickly brought honor to by participating in the destruction of no fewer than 23 Dominion vessels. Through skill, guile, and a few well-place assassinations, Morgan attained the rank of Sogh (equivalent to Lieutenant), a commission he still holds in the tlhIngan Hubbeq to this day.

After the war, Morgan returned to the Federation as an exchange officer and was admitted to Starfleet Academy, where he earned a commission in Starfleet in 2376. A brief tour as a tactical officer aboard the USS Rickenbacker ended after Morgan had a very public dispute with his direct superior regarding an unknown vessel which was assumed to be friendly. Morgan had contended that the vessel was hostile based upon incidents that had occurred along its extrapolated path; his superior failed to make the connection. Morgan was right; the vessel turned on the Rickenbacker and opened fire, badly damaging the ship before Morgan and two enlisted crewmen were able to direct fire from the Rickenbacker's sole surviving photon torpedo launcher and destroy the attacker. For his actions, Morgan was cited for bravery; for his insubordination, he was put on the beach at Starbase 562, the Federation's boneyard facility, until he transferred to the Federation Marine Corps as a fighter pilot.

Morgan mastered the YF-6000 Peregrine quickly and participated in antipiracy patrols in territory controlled by the Orion Syndicate until the current military action in the Briar Patch.
