Personality

Never one to put on airs concerning his royal background, Alistair actually is quite "down to earth" so to speak. Very few of his friends from Starfleet Headquarters knew of his noble birth and the role of his family on Betazed. Alistair tries to conceal this portion of his past, unless asked a direct question about his background. Since very few people can actually pronounce his first name correctly (pronounced ahl-is-stir), he usually goes by his middle name among friends. Alistair is a full telepath with the ability to read the thoughts of others. He has used this ability to assist in making his patients more comfortable by helping them verbalize their pain or discomfort. As a result of his sheltered life, Alistair is still quite "green" regarding his interspecies relationship skills. Although he masks his nervousness around other humanoid species with perfect manners learned since childhood, he actually is wary of other species that he hasn't been in contact with. This should subside as he begins the process of "broadening his horizons."

Background

Betazed to Linnea and Alexander Cherrin in 2358 into the Third House of Betazed, the House of Cherrin. He is the middle child of his family with an older brother, Eriq Mallory and younger sister Elorie Marne. His father gave his middle name to him in deference to a good friend from Earth named Scott McAllister, who had died shortly before Alistair's birth. Although he was born into one of the noble houses of Betazed, his future role in his family was to be diminished due to his older brother assuming the bulk of the responsibility of the family royal line. Realizing that his future life as a courtier in the House of Cherrin would be less than fulfilling for him, he decided to enter Starfleet Medical at the age of eighteen.

Graduating in the exact middle of his class in 2380, Alistair decided to complete his medical intern and residency training on Earth at Starfleet Headquarters in San Francisco, California. With his training complete, and fresh from completing his residency he was given only a few choices for his first post outside of the boundaries of Sol system, one of which was SB901. The idea of working in one of the remote Federation territories appealed to Alistair due in part to his realization that he had led a fairly sheltered life on Betazed and continued that trend while on Earth at Starfleet Headquarters. So, with the hope of broadening his horizons, Alistair chose the position of CMO aboard SB901.
