History
Maruu Stephen was born on July 11, 2354, only three years after the construction of the renowned Deep Space Nine, known back then as Terok Nor. His youth was spent with his parents, Maruu Fernand and Maruu Patrys, in the Labor Camps during the Cardassian Occupation of Bajor. He showed his first hints of leadership and cunning when he organized an escape from the Labor Camps in 2363. He killed his first Cardassian at age nine. Immediately after, he joined the Bajoran Resistance. While in the Resistance, Maruu saw his parents brutally murdered by Cardassian soldiers, and he met the gifted Kira Nerys. He served under her and earned her confidence in no time. He was only 15 when the Cardassians fled Bajor after leaving it in ruins. The people's pride, however, remained intact.
After 2369, when the Federation offered to help Bajor, Maruu realized where he wanted to be. He lied about his age and joined Starfleet in 2370 at age 16. Unlike most Bajorans, when joining the Federation, Maruu changed his name around: from the Bajoran last-name-first, to the Terran first-name-last form. After graduating Stafleet Academy in 2374, he was assigned as a security officer on the USS Sentinel. He served under Chief Security Officer Lt. Commander Jeffrey Pike, who belonged to a great line of Starfleet Captains. Later, after the USS Sentinel was destroyed near the end of the Federation-Dominion War, Maruu was promoted to Lieutenant. He then joined the USS Okahla. It was there that he distinguished himself during the final battle of the Federation/Dominion War and was promoted to Lt. Commander at age 21. The rest of his time on the Okahla was spent helping the alliance between the Federation and the Dominion work and in rebuilding Cardassia Prime. In 2377, the Dominion fell into a Civil War: the two factions were the Dominion Alliance and the Dominion Totalitarian Force. The Federation was kindly asked by Odo, leader of the Dominion Alliance, to allow the two factions to duel it out amongst themselves. From that moment, the Okahla was reassigned to another mission.
In 2381, Maruu was promoted to captain and given command of his own ship, the USS Virgo. He was 27 at the time. The Federation gave him the perilous duty of exploring the inner reaches of the Gamma Quadrant and to avoid confrontations with the Dominion Totalitarian Force. Maruu has already had to battle the treacherous Dominion faction but has led the Virgo to victory with minimal casualties. During an encounter with an android gone mad, Maruu was killed with a knife through his chest. Later, he was resurrected by use of a device belonging to a race called the Kirusans. The device later self-destructed, but Maruu was brought back, safe and sound.
On a planet called Xenon III, was duplicated by a Pah-wraith called Pharox. His twin took the name Stephen Kosst and escaped the planet. Stephen married Dana Nori in 2384. In November of the same year, his wife was captured by Stephen Kosst, now working with the T'rais, a demonic race that had preceded the Jem'Hadar as the warriors of the Dominion, and forced to undergo a ritual that would destroy the whole of Creation. In a fierce battle, Kosst was killed, and Pharox, along with the T'rais home planet, became trapped in an interdimentional void. Dana Maruu died due to wounds sustained in battle.
With his new close friend, Stephen Maruu went to live at Starbase 901. He is currently on extended leave.
Personality
After all that he has been through, Maruu remains very faithful to his faith in the Bajoran Prophets. He is well-mannered, calm, and passionate, but very conscientious about his actions. He makes a great friend, and he has built strong connections to a few people who he loves dearly.
