The runabout was full of mostly new and fresh officers going to their first assignment ever. However, there was one officer where this was not his first assignment.
Lieutenant Commander Vince Kelly was in the rear of the runabout getting himself a cup of coffee when one of the two science officers called for his attention.
"Commander we are leaving the Briar Patch."
Kelly grabbed his coffee, walked to the nerve center of the runabout and sat at one of the forward stations. He pressed a few of the helm buttons and the Delaware slowed to 1/2 impulse.
"Sir we are being hailed by Supply Base 901." A young crewman said from the tactical station.
"What is it they want Crewman Harper?"
"They want us to dock in Docking Bay 3 sir."
The the runabout shifted to see the big station and all except Kelly were impressed.
"Come on sir. Aren't you at least a little excited." The young female Science officer asked Lieutenant Commander Kelly.
"Listen I understand you guys are excited, to me, however, it's just another post. Trust me in 10 years, if you survive that long, that's how you will all feel. Now lets get the Runabout ready to dock."
The runabout landed smoothly in the docking bay and everyone grabbed their gear. As they stepped into the air lock, a Lieutenant wearing the gold uniform met them with a few security officers.
"Welcome I'm Lieutenant Call, Chief Tactical officer on this station. May I see all of your orders?" He read the four crew members orders, and then continued. "Ensigns Parker and Conner, security will show you to your quarters. NCO Harper, you're needed in the Security office. And you, Sir," he said to Kelly, "Commander Jeffreys would like to speak with you, so if you would follow me please."
Kelly was not looking forward to this assignment. First of all it was isolated from Starfleet and the station commander was unfit to command, in Kelly's opinion. But he thought the usual thought. Just do my job and that's it.
