"The Dead and Dying"

Author: NCO Patrick Harper
Earthdate: January 29, 2384
Location: USS Hood, Delaware

"Harper, beam back to the bridge and try to see if you can gain control of the ships back up systems." Commander Kelly orderd the young crewman.

"Aye sir." Harper replied.

The transporter gave him a tingling feeling as all trasporting did. He liked the sensation.

Harper looked around the wrecked bridge and saw dead officers lying on the floor and over control stations. He walked back over to tactical and pressed a few of the buttons and a screen lit up to his right, but flickerd on and off. The screen was a readout of life forms onboard the ship but it was sketchy and hard to understand, mainly because the ship's main computer was off line.

The emergancy bridge lights came on as did a few brdge stations such as OPS and Helm. Patrick also saw three dead officers two wearing gold uniforms. One had a phaser blast to his heart, the other two had been hit in the head and blood was draining from their wounds.

From what Harper could tell, a wepon hit near the bridge and ruptured a plasma conduit killing most of the crew and injurying the bridge crew.

This was the first time Harper had ever seen dead people before where they were shot up and tore apart from an explosion. He walked over to OPS and saw the Senior OPS officer, a Vulcan wearing Lieutenant Pips, had a seven inch wide hole in his chest and most of the station was destroyed except for the departmental status display.

Harper begain downloading the information to the runabout when his comm badge gave a beep.

[Harper see if you can download the tactical readout display.] Commander Kelly asked from the Delware.

"I am trying to do that now sir. Everything is so wrecked in here, Commander."

[ Well, Jeffreys wants us to tractor the Hood back to Supply Base 901, try and save as much information before the ship's power and secondary computer is drained.]

"Aye Aye sir."

After five minutes Patrick was back on the Delware and was glad to be away from the horriable sight of the bridge.

"That was terriable, sir. Everyone was dead or dying."

Commander Kelly gave the crewman a pat on the shoulder for he remembered his first sight of terror some 12 years ago. He handed the crewman a cup of coffee and said, "You're human, it will always bother you. You'll never get used to it. At least you shouldn't"
