"Fixing the Hood"

Author: Commander Gavin Jeffreys
Earthdate: January 29, 2384
Location: USS Hood

Garek and Call were surprised by the large amounts of damage to the engineering section.

"This will take forever to fix," mentioned Call as he tried stepping through the rubble to get to the main computer. "I really don't see why we bother, a ship this old should just be decommissioned and newer ones should be built. Hell, if I remember right, this thing got destroyed at Wolf 359, there probably aren't any original parts left on this thing."

Garek was making his way to the warp core, although it wouldn't be needed for it's trip to the base, it would be important that once there a breach didn't occur. He stood in front of the huge cylindrical warp core. It was shut down, but containment looked good. The transparent aluminum reflected some of the light that did exist in engineering. He saw some movement under a large piece of metal that, at one point, was the wall to the Chief Engineer's office.

"Nathan! We have a survivor!" he said as he spun around. But instead of seeing a face or hand, it was a phaser. He quickly jumped the the ground a threw a piece of a chair at the hand. The phaser fired and hit the chair, vaporizing it. Whoever it is, they aren't Starfleet.

Call had been walking, but when he saw the phaser blast he moved quickly, jumping on top of the wall that pinned the enemy down. The panel that had been holding it up broke, allowing the wall to crash completely on the person underneath. Call heard bones crunch as the enemy was crushed.

Nathan kneeled down and grabbed the phaser from the decrepit hand. "Looks like whoever this is, is about 125 years old."

"Son'a"

"Uh-huh," agreed Call. "But what would they want with the Hood. If they were angered or something they could have destroyed the ship, it doesn't appear that they took anything of value, it looks like the warp core is intact, and that's an expensive piece of machinery."

"I don't know the Son'a enough to make a guess. Let's just finish our job. Maybe we can get something online that'll help move this ship. They Flyer's tractor isn't gonna tug this thing easily."

Call walked back to the control station and got it powered up again. He noted no lifeforms in their section, but others were located in other, inaccessible parts of the ship. "Internal sensors are damaged, can only read ten lifeforms on board, there were fifty-six, and now there are the five of us, including Lieutenant Commander Kelly, Chief Edwards, and Harper."

Garek walked over to the station and began searching for an answer. "We're only able to scan the last five decks. Sensors can't reach past there. I would imagine that most of those crew was in engineering. Plus, there should only be sixty life forms. Fifty-six plus five," he then mentioned to the dead hand on the floor, "minus one. Contact Kelly and see if he's got anything." Loran walked to another station to try and get it up and running.

"Call to Kelly."

Nothing.

"Call to Edwards."

Nothing.

"Call to Murphy"

[Yes, sir?]

"Anything from the other team? I can't reach them, inter ship communications are out and something must be messing with our personal communications through the ship."

[They just beamed back to the Delaware. What do you want?]

"Try and patch me through the Delta Flyer to them."

[Yes, sir.]

[Kelly here.]

"It's Call, what did you find out?"

[You won't like it. Son'a]

"I know, we found one alive down here. He tried to take Commander Loran out."

[Fun for you guys. We could only find forty-eight of the life forms, plus ours of course. We couldn't scan into engineering.]

"Similar problem on our end. We couldn't get anything but engineering. We found the other eight. It looks like they're all accounted for."

"This is Loran, I just got the thrusters back online. It's not much, but it'll get this thing moving in the right direction."

[I sent Harper back to get some more information, will we be leaving after that?]

"Yes. In fact, let's get this thing moving while he's onboard and save some time," said Loran. "Clear the way and I'll give the Hood a push, then we can get in front of it and activate the tractor beam."

[OK, will do. Kelly out.]

"Murphy, beam me back," said Call. "Garek will be staying on board for a while." He dematerialized, leaving Garek to his work.
