"Microwave"

The turbolift came to a hault at Section 3 as Crewman Woodrow Murphy entered the turbolift. He stepped inside and stopped, standing next to Lieutenent Commander Garek Loran. "Bridge," Garek said calmly, listening to the hum of the turbolift as it started up again.

"What got you this anxious, sir?" Woodrow asked, looking over to Garek.

"I've figured out how to penetrate the dampning field on the Hood," Garek replied. He then looked at Woodrow. "I'm going to need your help working on this though."

"Why me?" Woodrow asked in reply. "You've got another hundred engineers on this station, a lot of them higher ranking then me."

"Because of your record and personality. You're one of the few ego-maniac engineers that are on this station," said the chief engineer. Garek shook his head and added, "Everyone's always looking to get noticed for replacing an EPS conduit here or there to get their 'brownie points.' I ask you to jump into waist deep sludge to fix a set of cables and it's always, 'yes sir,' instead of, 'why not wait until a damage team cleans this place out first?' from someone else. You kinda remind me of myself, I guess," Garek commented smiling.

"Thanks," Woodrow replied with a simple grin. The turbolift doors stopped, and the two exited. They walked up to the office of Commander Jeffreys.

"Enter," was heard from inside the room. The two engineers stepped forward, entering the office. Commander Jeffreys was redecorating with a centerpiece while the two entered. "Where would yeh put this damned thing Garek?" Gavin asked, still looking at the piece of glass he held in his hands.

"Well sir, the patterns in the glass resembles that of Andorian art. It seems to give off of bluish hue when the light hits it, so I think it would look best on the table by the couch."

Gavin's eyebrow shot up as he reviewed the piece of art. He then placed it on the table. "Aye, it seems to work there. Very good Garek. I must ask, how'd yeh know it was Andorian?"

"My mom has the same piece of artwork at home," Garek commented smiling.

"And the shop owner told me it was a one of a kind. Just trying ta boost the economy around here and look what I get. A twenty pound piece of manufactured glass."

"Sir," said Murphy, taking his chances trying to get friendly with the commander, "I believe that Mr. Loran said that it was a twenty pound piece of manufactured glass that seems to give off a blueish hue when the light hits it."

"So he did, lad. I guess it's worth it then." The three of the lauphed as Gavin took a seat behind his desk. "Now what can I do for the both of yeh?"

"I think I've found a way to penetrate a dampning field that's on the Hood," Garek replied. He looked over at Woodrow, and then back at Commander Jeffreys who was waiting for more information. "Well, back onboard the Liberty, the Chief Operations onboard were able to penetrate a dampning field using low wave radio frequencies and thermal imaging to establish the heat signatures of the beings in the dampning field. If we can find the right radio wave frequency, we may be able to break through the dampning field."

"Aye, good work, lad. Get to work on it right away."

"Of course, sir. I'm also going to need Mr. Murphy here to begin work enhancing our sensor array. Sorry to say, as of now our sensor array isn't powerful enough to do the task needed."

"Alright, get to work. But be sure to give me a list of the modifications you make." Gavin handed Garek a PADD.

Garek took the PADD, and stuffed it in a cargo pocket. "Sure thing, Commander." The two engineers stepped out of the CO's office. As the door shut behind them, Garek turned to Woodrow. "What I'm going to need you to do is assemble a group of engineers and begin working on the sensor array system. Major things I need upgraded are the subspace radio system, subspace transivers, and the multi spectral scanning system. These are going to have to be at full capacity in order for this to work."

"You got it, Commander. I'll get right on it." Woodrow made his way to the turbolift. The doors opened and Woodrow and Nathan Call switched places. The doors closed behind Woodrow and took him away.

Garek stepped down the small flight of stairs to the Engineering console in "the pit" which was currently un-occupied. Activating the display screens, different displays and graphs popped up as the panel sprang to life. Activating a menu on one of the screens, Garek brought up the scanning capability of the station.

"Idea forming?" Lieutenent Nathan Call called from the Security station. Lieutenent Commander Nevar was currently away.

"Possibly. Nathan, come here and give me your opinion." Garek activated some other readouts on his screens. Nathan walked over and looked over Garek's shoulder at the information being displayed on the screen. "I'm working on increasing the power to these scanning systems here." Garek pointed to the three he had mentioned before. "I was wondering if I could draw some energy from your torpedo launching systems momentarily while we preform these scans."

"I don't see why not. Hardly anything interesting has happened out here besides what happened to the Hood."

"Good." Garek began rerouting the power to the scanning equipment. He then tapped his commbadge. "Mr. Murphy, have you arrived in Engineering?"

[Just walked in sir,] Woodrow replied.

"Good, fire up the reaction chamber. That was on my 'to do' list, but I think you're quite capable of doing it."

[Aye Commander. I'm on it now.] The channel closed, and Garek watched the power output clime gradually as the unfired M/ARA core fired up. Operating procedures stated that the core be tested at a starting output of fifty percent, and gradually climb up to one hundred twenty before gowing back down to the normal output rate.

"That'll work. Oh, Nate, I'm going to need all the shuttlecraft and workbees in the Main Bay to stop what they're doing for the time being. Could you see to that?"

"Sure," Nathan replied, heading over to the Communications panel.

It took a while, but finnally the Main Bay was empty, the reactor core was fully powered, and all the modifications to the sensors had been made.

"Well, here we go," Garek said as he activated the scanning systems.
