"A Little Bit of Duty"

Author: NCO Woodrow Murphy
Earthdate: February 13, 2384
Location: Crew Quarters

The day had finally come to an end, for this day he had to modify a lot of the StarBase's defenses and a Runabout. He was tired and there still had work that needed to be done. However Garek sent Murphy home for the rest of the night.

He stepped into the his crew quarters he shared with Patrick Harper and saw Harper eating dinner at the table.

"What's going on there Pat?"

"Nothing really just eating some supper before my shift tonight." Harper said in reply after swallowing a bite of food.

"Really when is your shift?"

"At 2200 hrs till 0200 hrs. It's a short one for some reason, mainly to make sure the Star Lounge and Easy Inn behave themselves. Other then that it is an easy shift."

"Well I'm not that lucky I've worked over twelve hours and still have reports to fill out. I'm heading to the shower, if I don't see you when I get out later."

Patrick nodded his head in compliance and continued to eat. Fifteen minutes later Woodrow returned from the shower and put on his civilian attire and starting working on a few reports. Then came a call he didn't want to hear.

[Murphy Garek here]

"Yes I'm listening"

[The bridge is having a problem with one of there sensor display read out panels. You need to get dress and fix it.]

"All right. I'm on my way."

Blast it! More work! An Engineer's job is never finished

Murphy went to the bridge and started working on the problem right away. He found out that after reading his tricorder that the power couplings were on their way to overload everywhere on the station. He knew this was important.

He tapped his combadge immediately "Commander Loran, Murphy here." [Go ahead Murph]

"This one is a good one sir. The station's three main power couplings are overloaded. They are not putting out sufficient power because all the power from the shops and mall area, the three docking bays, bridge, weapons, and shields. The shield couplings are automatically compensating for the drain."

[All right shut down docking bay 1,3 and the unoccupied crew quarters. That should work for the mean time until I can rig up something. Thanks Murph.]

"No problem Sir."
