"Deja'vu"

Author: Captain Jayme Alcon
Earthdate: May 5, 2385
Location: Marine country

[chirp...chirp.] Jayme woke and touched her combadge, "Captain Alcon, here." [This is sgt Berke in the infirmary. I need your help, Captain.]

Jayme looked at the tim, 0300hrs. She sat up rubbing her face and said, "received. On my way." She pulled on her uniform and walked out of her quarters. The infirmary was halfway around the rim toward the administration area.

She entered the infirmary. She saw Berke's back and a female in marine uniform. Kama Dayrne spotted Jayme and called out, "Officer on deck." Berke turned and saw Captain Alcon.

Jayme walked further toward the biobed and saw that the patient was Ens. Marki Rashan. She took the tricorder from Berke and reviewed the scan in silence, and then moved in to do a secondary hands on exam. She noted that the sgt's hair was wet, and there was no signs of a fight on uniform. "What happened Marki?"

Marki tried to sit up but Jayme's hand on her shoulder prevented her from moving. "I tripped in the locker room, ma'am."

"Did you have any help tripping? Were there any witness?" Jayme asked.

"No. Ma'am." Marki said without maintaining eye contact with the Captain. Jayme nodded and picked up the dermal generator and started working on the scalp laceration, the black eye, and split lip. Berke had gone back to the desk to work on his part of the report.

"Corporal Dayrne, were you involved in this?"

"I heard a crash and yelling and when I rounded the corner all I saw was Marki on the floor. I called for a corpsmen and while I waited I helped her dress, and then to move her to here."

"She has some cracked ribs, a bruised hip and a concussion and will be here for the night. Your dismissed." She turned to Marki and ordered, "sit up and get out of that uniform and into the gown. I'll be back in a minute to finish treating your injuries." Jayme pulled the privacy curtain and walked Kama out of the infirmary. "What the hell is going on in barracks, Kama?"

"Ma'am?" Kama came to attention."I don't know what you mean?"

Jayme made sure the hall was clear, and said, "This is the second accident she's had since I arrived on station, this is the fourth battered individual from our unit seen in the last two weeks." Jayme moved in closer and locked eyes with Kama. "I asked you a question!"

"Aye, sir." She met Jayme's stare. "I won't name names but there is a group in barracks that's been 'hitting on' other members or just outright picking fights." She paused and we her lips. "I believe that Esteva figures into this incident heavily as she knows that Marki and I are paired."

Jayme stepped back out of the other woman's face, and thought about what she'd just heard. "Watch your back, dismissed." Jayme pivoted and re entered the infirmary. Berke looked up, and said, "The Corp. was complaining of pain so I medicated her. Do you need me to stay and help out or come back in about an hour?"

"Come back in an hour." Jayme took off her jacket and pulled the privacy curtain back. For the next half hour she worked on the deep tissue injuries of the hip and ribs. Then she pulled up a chair and sat down beside the drowsy marine. "Kama told me some of what's going on in barracks. The scan show that you were assaulted... "Marki, who jumped you in the showers?"

"No." She took a breath and on the verge of tears said, "I'm not going to say. You've lived in barracks, know how it is when you 'rat' on someone."

"You're right--I've been there." Jayme stood and grabbed a cup of coffee. She touched her combadge "Captain Alcon to Security."

[Security.] A young female officer said. "I need an officer in the Marine Infirmary to take an assault report. [Received Ma'am it will be about thirty minutes.]

"Marki, I called security to take a report." Jayme returned to her seat. After a minute she slumped down and met Marki's eyes. "I'm going to tell you something...I was involved with a person in the unit I led...when I was scheduled to ship out I refused to go to the going away party...and I ended up drugged, beaten and assaulted. I fled that duty station without filing the necessary reports against them... I am still trying to deal with those memories." Jayme watched what she said soak in to the other woman brain. "I am ordering a session with the ships counselor about this incident. You have two days medical leave and I want her assessment on my desk before you can return to duty."

"I can't file a report." She said, trying to slid off the biobed. Jayme stood and rolled Marki back onto the bed. She raised the head and moved in invading the other woman's personal space. "You will file that report and name names...I can't clean up this platoon if everyone refuses to speak out."

The young security officer arrived and Jayme moved back to the desk area to make entries into Marki's medical records. Jayme listened and was happy that Marki filed a complete report and named her attackers. Jayme rested her elbows on the desk and rubbed her eyes as a flash back of her own past passed in front of her eyes, triggering a migraine. She shook herself out of the flashback as the security officer left the infirmary. Jayme placed the referral to the counselors office.

She called medical, "Is Dr. Fletcher on duty?"

"Yes. Ma'am. Transferring you to his desk." She took a breath and held the right side of her head. He came on smiling, "Hello."

"Hi Nathan. Are you very busy?" She smiled back at him.

"No." He frowned and shook his head. "Where are you?"

"I'm in the Marine infirmary treating a patient. I'll be leaving here in a few minutes. Thought I'd come see you before going on shift."

He smiled and said, "See you when you get here. She heard the beep and saw him mute the audio and look away. "Have to go." He broke the line.

She stood and moved around the biobed to check the newest vitals and brain scan on Marki. The door opened and Berke entered. "Ma'am, I can finish this watch."

"Thank you. Call me if there are any changes. Also arrange with all of the Senior NCO's for our unit that there is a meeting at 1500 about discipline and the new training schedule."

Jayme walked out and headed for Sickbay. Once there she entered the locker room and got her lab jacket out of her locker. The head ache was building and she fought off a wave of nausea. She closed her locker and walked out into the main lobby and pulled a chart and called the patient back to a treatment area. After treating the patient she charted and discharged them.

She paused leaning against a wall and next she felt a hand take her elbow and pulled her away from the wall. Jayme's eyes met Nathans, "Hi." She smiled and leaned in for a quick hug. He kissed her forehead and with her hand in his lead her to the biobed. "I can see you're fighting a migraine."

He ran a scan and then moved off to order meds from the replicator. He returned and administered a dose to the common vein in her neck. "Give that a few minutes." He stood behind her and started to message some of the tension out of her shoulders. "Have any idea what brought this on?"

"Yeah." She said between deep breaths, and then added, "It's platoon business." It was a partial lie and hated not tell him the whole truth. He moved to stand in front of her, and said, "Sounds pretty heavy duty. If I can help, just ask. How's the headache?"

She rolled her head on her shoulders and looked into his eyes. "Better but not gone." He loaded another dose into the hypospray and stepped in closer. She closed her eyes and clenched her teeth as he administered the second dose."

"I want you to go back to quarters and get some sleep." He made a note in her medical record.

"Nathan, I really need to get these hours in. I'm feeling much better and I want to stay on shift." She stood and rested back against the biobed with her hands in her pockets. He looked at her, and caved in, "okay, but if this headache bounces back you're out of here!" He gave her a quick kiss. "Lets get back to work then." They both walked out and started seeing the few patients that arrived for the next eight hours. When there were no patients Jayme worked on the Medical simulator on procedures.

At fifteen hundred hours, she arrived in the meeting room and found five of her six senior NCO's for her platoon. "There has been four battered individuals from our unit treated in the infirmary in two week. Why?" She looked around at the six of them as she took her seat at the head of the conference table, and said, "The Colonel is going to be asking me questions real soon as to what the hell is going on in my Platoon! I have a report filed with security...I know who the trouble makers are...and if you can't sit on them, I will!"

"For the next twenty-six days everyone is going to be on double shifts in order to complete flight ops and advanced medical courses and to cover our responsibilities to the Corps. If I have to 'shit can' these five members of our Platoon--I will in the name of safety." From her pile of notes she pulled out a sheet of paper and ordered, "Berke, find these three individuals for me and have them report here--ASAP. Ronning, I want you to locate and have waiting for me here; PFC's Esteva, Commings, Neil, Zack, and Kaplan, at 1730 hrs. Dismissed."

Jayme touched her combadge as the group trooped out with their assignments, "Captain Alcon to Master Sgt. Hartman."

[Hartman here, ma'am.] Jayme hated to involve the Gunny as he was a direct conduit to the Colonel, "I would like you to attend a meeting at 1730 hrs Gunny--RE: extra duty assignments."

She had no sooner broken communications with Hartman then the three other assaulted members of her platoon arrived; two women and one male. Jayme frowned. All three of them came to attention at the foot of the table. "The reports have made it to my desk and there is a pattern emerging here that I am not happy about. This isn't a direct order but it is a matter that I want you to re think. I can't clean up this platoon if you play the games dictated by those that assaulted you. I would like each of you to file reports of assault with station security. I or any of the Gunny's would be willing to assist you in any way they can...but I can't help you if there's no reports. Dismissed." She watched as they pivoted and exited the conference room.

Jayme walked over and ordered, "Coffee hot black." A cup appeared at the same time MSGT Hartman arrived. "Cup of Coffee, Gunny?"

"No, ma'am." He said assuming an at ease stance. Jayme smiled and walked back to her seat.

"Gunny, I am a Marine with a problem. I am dropping an Article 15 on five members of my platoon, and the penalty is 90 days lost of leave and privileges. This will drop them on you to supervise and use in your scut details--which I am sure you have many that need doing."

The Gunny smiled, and said, "Yes. Ma'am." There was a buzz at the door, and at that Harman moved to stand at ease just behind her left shoulder. She then said to him, "The show is about to begin. Enter." In walked the five PFC's.

Three hours later she was leaving when she ran into the colonel in the hall, who said, "Heard thereā Ts been some problems in your platoon?"

"Yes, sir. And I'm on it." She set her shoulders smiled, thinking to herself could Gunny have reached him already???

He looked at her and shook his head but decided to let it rest. "Dismissed."

Jayme headed to her quarters drank a glass of ice tea and tried the item called pizza that Kassia and Tiyanna had programmed into her replicator. She checked her messages--she ate and decided none of them required action tonight. She walked into her bedroom, pulled off her uniform and crawled under the comforter and slept.
