"Assault On An Officer"

Author: Maj. Jackson, Dr. Cherrin, Dr. Fletcher, Capt. Alcon
Earthdate: May 28, 2385
Location: MEF Classroom 310/Sickbay

Jayme was exhausted it had been a long month. She sat at the table grading assignments from her medic 103 course she was teaching to her twenty junior corpsmen. Several members of the class were still finishing up their hands on skills. She'd tuned them out to concentrate on her work. She looked up once to see that Moria Esteva and Neil's were still in the room. She put her PADD down, rubbed her face with her hands, and rested there for a minute. She didn't look up when she heard the door close. With a sigh, and the belief she was alone allowed herself to relax with her eyes closed.

She wasn't alone for one member of the group had lagged behind watching in silence as the units senior officer sat with eyes closed. A golden opportunity. The basic corpsmen smiled and waited another minute before moving silently as they'd been taught. With a rod from a splint kit the trooper move and strike with deadly force clipping the senior officer behind the left ear at the base of the skull. The blow didn't strike perfectly as the rod whistling through the air startled the captain and she turned her head just slightly before the blow landed.

The corpsmen smiled as the captain's head thunk'ed down on the table top, and struck her a second time to be sure. The corpsmen's hands had been coated and sealed with a protectant against blood and other contaminates, but it also prevented DNA and fingerprints from transferring, but taking no chances the perpetrator compacted and stashed the rod in a pocket and left the room.

Shannon was getting frustrated. She'd been looking for Captain Alcon especially since she missed their sparing session and hour ago. "Computer, Location of Captain Alcon?"

<Captain Alcon is in the Classroom MEF Room 310.> The computer droned. Shannon shook her head and touched her combadge, "Lt. Vansen to Captain Alcon." Silence...silence...silence... There was the chirp, so she knew her badge was working. "Computer what is the status of Captain Alcon's combadge?" she asked.

<Captain Alcon's, combadge is working nominally.> Well, Shannon stood with her hands on her hips and her hair loosely framed her face. For some reason Jayme was busy and couldn't or wasn't going to take the time to answer her calls-- which meant she was probably working and avoiding everyone. Shannon rounded the corner and saw the door to the classroom, peered though the window into the room and found it dark. It didn't make any sense unless maybe her friend had somehow dropped her combadge--why else would the computer think she was in there. ...oh shit she thought to herself. She touched her own combadge before entering the room, "Lt Vansen to Master Sgt Hartman."

"Hartman, here." He growled sitting at his desk.

Shannon paused, "I have a situation in MEF room 310...stand by." Shannon triggered the door and immediately rushed through with her entry the lights came on. "Gunny. I need a senior officer and security. I'm calling for medical now." Shannon touched her combadge again, "Medical to MEF 310, on the double!" She moved in and gently touched her friends neck and found a pulse. The pilot scanned the room and committed it to memory.

Swirling colors and darkness, waves of queasiness, and the thundering of her pulse with that of the music... music, she thought to herself. She'd been packing for her trip to Earth for OCS... there wasn't any music on. She remembered the door opening, turning, and seeing several of her squad enter. Moria Esteva said pouting, "C'mon serge, let's go party, it's your last night on Europa."

"No. My transport leaves at 1200hrs tomorrow." Jayme paused and looked at the other woman, and said, "Moria, stop! I told you two month's ago that I don't want to continue our relationship. I meant it! Go party with someone else." Jayme turned her back and went back to packing. She felt the sting of the hypospray and everything grayed out. Moria looked to Roxxane and said, "Tranq is such a wonderful drug."

Jayme woke and found herself restrained. Her heart was racing in her chest, her lungs burned, vision was blurred, and the music was way too loud. It pounded all around her and soon her heart beat matched the music's' tempo. She saw her squad dancing, eating, and drinking. Couples were discreetly in corners sharing favors. She tried calling out several times but couldn't be heard over the music. Finally, Rox and Moria remembered she was hanging around and poured part of a drink down her throat, but she ended up wearing most of the too sweet liquid. And Moria said, "Maybe the 'Dust' will make you more fun." The two women wandered away. Jayme drifted half in-and-out of consciousness, but came awake suddenly when several people decided to kick and hit her. She repeatedly blacked out and came to this last time being raped by a member of her former crew. She endured until the whole night faded away.

She woke alone partially dressed, cold, and bleeding. She pulled herself together. On her way back from her quarters with her gear a security team saw her and she was escorted to medical where they worked her over. Security got a very minimal and reluctant statement from her. They couldn't find a senior officer to put a hold on her transfer orders. She grabbed her gear, changed clothes in medical, and made her transport for Earth when they weren't looking. She bypassed stopping on Mars Station to visit her folks.

Jayme came to, in sickbay on SB901, and rolled immediately to her right side unsure if she was going to be sick or not, but just that tiny act caused her head to explode in light and noise. Toren Len was there instantly to keep her from rolling right off the biobed. Dr. Cherrin was on duty had been watching the monitors comparing her Composite Neural profile to the scan he had performed prior to her waking. Toren Len applied a hypo spray to her neck and the ill feeling faded and he helped her to lay back. Security officer Sandoval stood with Major Jackson and Dr. Cherrin, "She's got a basilar skull fracture and a subdural bleed--which, I've repaired but she's going to have the same side effects as a severe concussion. Make your conversations with her brief gentlemen." He left Toren at the bedside and went to call Nathan and let him know about Jayme.

"Captain, can you identify your attacker?" PO 2nd class Sandoval asked quietly.

"No. But only PFC's Esteva and Neil, were in the room prior to the assault. I had my eyes closed for a few moments. --I thought they'd left...Guess, I was wrong?" Toren placed a soft ice pack on the back of her head. "There isn't anything else I can tell you, sorry."

Jayson nodded, and said, "That's okay, ma'am. I'll file the report and do some checking. If you remember anything else just contact Security." With that Jayson nodded to the major and left the area.

Major Jackson's eyes were bright and his neck veins distended, "Basically another 'Locker door' got you?" He remembered an incident from her first week on station and then said, "The Colonel isn't off the station; but four hours, on an inspection of Camp Anderson and you get assaulted. "What is up with that?"

Toren moved in and ran another bio scan, adjusted the blanket covering her, and prepared hypospray with pain medication. She reached up, blocked his arm, and gently shook her head "No."

A voice from the door way said, "Jayme...stop interfering with your care." Nathan moved to the side of the bed and watched the wave forms on the monitors. He took Jayme's hand that had blocked the nurse, and said, "Go ahead, Toren." Toren administered the medication and stepped back to chart.

Jayme cleared her throat and fought to keep her eyes open. "Sir. If it wasn't for bad luck-- I'd have no luck at all." She looked up into Nathan's dark eyes, and whispered, "Please, I don't want to go to sleep or dream..." Her eyes closed and her grip on his hand lessened.

Major Jackson sighed and asked, "What does she mean by that?"

"With a head injury, it might not mean anything, sir," Nathan said as he pulled a chair around to have a seat with her hand in his. "Do we know how or why this happened?"

"No. The Lieutenant, from the 58th, Vansen found her unconscious. We know it happened long enough ago for the blood from the impact to have dried. Do you have any idea if she has any enemies, Doctor?"

"No, she's pretty tight lipped." Nathan said as Alistair walked over from his office to check the monitors. "I called her father," Nathan said, "But he wasn't in. I asked him to contact me here." Both men nodded.

Major Jackson left and went to the classroom and watched as security finished up, Sandoval shook his head, "Sorry, sir, there isn't any evidence as to who or which of the two might have done the deed."

The major grunted a response and headed back for his office. A few minutes later Security Chief Carmichael buzzed his door. He stood, and said, "Have a seat, Chief." He also sat back down.

She smiled and held three data chips in her hand. "I should probably wait and discuss this with Colonel Tarik, but in light of the days events, I'll let you in on some of the facts and we can help each other. I ran an exhaustive search through all military/security reports looking for similarities. The names of three members of the 'Medical Response Unit' triggered a hit back on Europa Station, on the USS Constantine, and now three assaults here on this station. Two of those list Ms. Alcon as the victim--the Europa report is basically blank. Anyway, those Names are: PFC's Esteva, Cummings, and Neil. Unfortunately, recent events aren't enough to bust those we suspect... unless your captain can name-names.

The second morning that Jayme was laying around in sickbay drugged and sleepy the Colonel stopped in to check on her and to visit. She knew that he'd been there, but not a clue as to what they chatted about. Later that afternoon when they started lowering some of the pain medications she remembered her dad, Nathan, Shannon and Kassia visiting and she only remembered pieces of those conversations. Nathan was pretty much there all the time...holding her hand. All she knew for sure was that being in this condition sucked and that paybacks were going to be Hell.
