Ensign Leret walked into the Security Office briskly, he had just showered, dressed and had breakfast with Cadet Smith on the Promenade and now he was reporting for duty to his Department Head and preparing to go on his first patrol of the station.
"Sir, Ensign Jonathon Leret reporting for duty; this PADD states that I was officially placed on duty under your command at 0400 hours this morning." The young Ensign stood straight and stiff at attention whilst saying this, only momentarily lapsing to hand over his orders to the male officer sitting behind the main desk of the Security Office.
"Oh, you seem to have made a mistake Ensign, I'm sorry, but the Chief of Security is currently off-duty, her baby's ill, I'm not sure myself when she'll be back in charge but you should report for today to Lieutenant Jones, she's just through there."
Jonathon said thank you and walked through to the Security Office Meeting/Briefing Room to meet Lieutenant Jones, the current Shift Commander; after a short welcoming briefing and discussion with her, Ensign Leret moved into the Briefing Room with the rest of the current Security Officer's assigned to the Alpha Shift.
Five minutes later an older looking male Lieutenant Commander, a senior looking Station Security Officer walked into the room along with the now recognizable Lieutenant Jones and took a seat alongside the standing Lieutenant at the front of the room, after a few minutes private discussion, they started handing out individual shift duty PADDs to each Security Officer assigned to the Patrol and the younger officer, Lieutenant Jones began speaking.
"Good Morning Officers, on this shift today there are thirty of you who will be patrolling the Station, as we just recieved a new complement of Junior Security Officers the other day, of whom there are fifteen of you here, Lieutenant Carmichael, who cannot be here has given orders that all the new security officers aboard the station shall patrol in pairs with an assigned officer who has served on and is experienced aboard Starbase 901, for your first patrol at least. Ok now, this is Lieutenant Commander Harrison who is currently visiting the Station to review the performance of all the new Junior Security Officers assigned to this station who are on their first posting since the Academy, he will be here for three days and he has already interviewed several of you, he will be patrolling the station with me for this shift today to see how you perform, all officers have been given the specific areas to patrol in their pairs; watch your back, and good luck, dismissed."
Ensign Leret was assigned to be partnered by Lieutenant (JG) Jane Marcus, an officer who had served on the starbase for three months now and had already been commended several times for her actions helping keep the peace aboard the multi-cultural outpost; their PADD read:

SECURITY DEPARTMENT
ORDERS:
PATROL PROMENADE - AREAS ONE THROUGH ELEVEN, PAY PARTICULAR ATTENTION TO THE AREAS THAT CONTAIN THE ESTABLISHMENTS 'HARRY'S AND THE 'EASY INN.'
PLEASE NOTE THAT THERE ARE CURRENTLY KLINGONS VISITING THE STATION ON AN UNNOFFICIAL VISIT, THEY WILL BE GONE IN A FEW DAYS BUT SEVERAL COMPLAINTS HAVE ALREADY BEEN LODGED ABOUT THEIR BEHAVIOUR.

Thirty minutes later officers Leret and Marcus were walking through the Promenade when a call came through on both their commbadges, [Alpha Team Six, please proceed to the vicinity of Harry's, we have complaints of a couple of Klingons waving knives around and shouting at the customers, you're being assigned along with Alpha Team One to clear this up, control out.]
Both officers ran at a fast pace straight towards the nearest turbolift, entered it and began the short ride round the deck to Harry's, as they disembarked they noticed Lieutenant Jones and Commander Harrison arguing with two Klingons next to a Computer Terminal, one of them was brandishing what Jonathon made out to be a kitchen utensil, a knife for eating with, it looked sharp though, the Klingon wasn't likely to use it, but you never knew with their race.
Lieutenant Marcus walked up to Commander Harrison and began helping him clear away the crowd, Lieutenant Jones was taking notes from onlookers and trying to ascertain what had happened between the Klingons and the members of the public who reported that the Klingons were being annoying and aggressive; Ensign Leret walked up to the Klingon with the knife and began talking "Hogh dech ch'hagh (Put that down, or are you showing that your house has no honour ?)," this annoyed the Klingon, he swung his knife towards Lieutenant Jones but it never made it that near to her, with one quick flash, Leret had grabbed the Klingon by the arm, swung his other fist into his stomach and unholstered his phaser, the Klingon backed off and his companion moved towards the attacking officer, Lieutenant Commander Harrison surprised almost everyone with the speed with which he reacted to the chain of events, he grabbed the second Klingon threw him towards a bulkhead with surprising force and then stunned him with his phaser, by this time the other security officers had contacted the Brig and had the offenders beamed to the safety of the Security Office.
The rest of Ensign Leret's first shift passed uneventfully, a few hours later though he was called back into action to help stop a suspected terrorist in the Security Office, an eventful day.
