T'learn stood to one side of the security gate wearing her red and black Starfleet uniform with a phaser at her hip. Her assignment this morning was to wait at the receiving gate for the new member of the security division to arrive.
She stood straight with her hands at the small of her back and surveyed the crowd. The arrival display changed and the hatch to the transport opened...
Skaren looked around at the station. He had seen many starships from the inside. His parents were Starfleet officers. He shifted the weight of the backpack he had with him and stepped out.
He made his way across the deck and after a search of his bag and the presentation of his credentials to the warrant officer, was passed through.
"Ensign Skaren, I am Ensign Demarco. I was assign to be your escort and guide for orientation to Starbase 901."
"Thank you, Ensign." Came the curt reply. "I am Ensign Skaren."
"Your belongings will automatically be transferred to your assigned quarters. Your quarters are on deck 23 and the address is SF 2300-4." They walked through the space dock and found the personnel lifts and as they ascended she continued to tell him of the quarters, "We are in four person quads. I am 2300-3--your neighbor and I trust you not to snore." They stepped off on the deck that had '23' in teal just opposite the lift. They made a right hand turn and walked a third of the way around the level to come to their quad- 2300. Inside she showed him a spacious living room, a replicator and dinning area, four rooms and a common restroom facility.
"I can't promise you anything on the snoring department. I never had any complaints." The Klingon looks at her. "This is acceptable."
She took a seat in one of the chairs and watched while he explored the rooms and disappeared into his room.
Skaren put his belongings away, and hung his Bath'let on the wall. His room was kept simple. He exited it quickly and went back to his guide. "I want to see the rest of this station."
"We need to get you logged into the station." She walked over to the computer terminal at the common desk, and said, "Computer, need you to access personnel files for Skaren, Ensign. Need access to quarters SF 2300-4, computer access, mail address, and duty roster."
The computer droned, <Please place right hand on screen and state name and access code.>
Skaren walked over to the computer terminal that T'learn had accessed, placed his right hand flat on the touch screen and said in a strong clear voice, "Computer, grant access to Skaren, Ensign, Omega-Epsilon-23-Saturn."<Access granted.> The computer beeped and showed Skaren all the information he requested, duty schedule, mail buffer and all the needed icons.
"Very well, show me this station now."
"This way." She led him back around to show him the rest of the facilities on deck 23 which included a small gym and recreation area. Once on the lift she said, "Sickbay." The lift moved quickly and the doors opened. They stepped out into a reception area. "This floor houses the sickbay, counseling, dental, and science labs. Before proceeding you must check in with Medical." She led the way through a frosted door with a medical cadeus and the Starfleet logo on each half.
"Why do I need to go here? I am in perfect shape. It is not needed to come here when I am not wounded. A Klingon can endure a lot without that medicalcenter."
"Jameson, this is Ensign Skaren. He is a new security officer for the station and needs to be seen. Make sure his records are up to date." She turned to Skaren, "Starfleet protocol for taking up a new duty station...one must be seen by a physician to guarantee that Starfleet isn't getting damaged personnel."
"Do you really think I am so very easy to damage, Ensign T'learn?" He eyed the nurse with distrust.
"Never know."
The nurse ran her medical tricorder over the Klingon and smiled. "Well, everything is in order here Ensign...hope you found this painless and not too boring?"
"In my opinion it is a waste of time yes." Skaren said curtly.
T'learn stood quietly letting him vent. She turned and lead the way out of Sickbay to the lift. They took the lift down to the technical level. She walked into the security division; which housed the dispatch, report room, locker room, offices, and brig.
"I hope not to have to be the one who ends up in that brig. That will go against my honor..." Skaren mumbled while inspecting his new environment fully.
They wandered around a little more and he was issued a locker and phaser. The dispatcher said, checking the computer, "Your commbadge is active, Ensign."
"Thank you, that will make my job much easier. I think I will have my hands full on this station." He looked satisfied. "Anything interesting happened I need to be aware of, Ensign?"
"Nothing at the moment, sir." The dispatcher said turning back to coordinate and update the dispatch board. "Just some episodes of indecent exposure and a couple of altercations . . ." He failed to mention people that were going missing, his own mind wandering.
They turned and walked out. They took the Jeffries tubes and traversed several more areas and made their way to the Promenade. "The Promenade has shops, restaurants, and access to all civilian areas."
"I have been to deep space nine before coming here. No Ferengi here I might hope?"
"We have representatives from all species and races on this station...not always in harmony." T'learn said as they arrived on the Promenade.
"That Quark took me for a fool." Skaren grumbled.
They walked around the shops and peeked into several of the establishments. Children darted in and out of the large pots and benches, seemingly unattened.
