"Epilogue of the Wellington"

Author: Lieutenant Commander Nevar Pol
Earthdate: March 11, 2384
Location: USS Arizona

Nevar walked briskly from the Arizona's lone cargo bay. He had checked first on his men and then on the prisoners. Both groups were fine, although the latter had far more bruises than the former, but not by much.

The battle on the surface had gone as the Commander had laid it out. Nevar and his team meet some resistance, but not much. As suspected, Walker had sent his bolian security chief to lead his ground team but the rest of the team was mostly raw recruits not sure of Walkers mission let alone dedicated to it.

Faced with a superior force and a ranking officer, the group surrendered peacefully. All but Waker's man. Nevar had to actually shoot him. That didn't sit well with the bajorian security officer as he arrived at the makeshift brig.

"How's our guest Mr. Harper?"

"Quiet as a mouse boss, hasn't said t peep since you dragged him in."

"Let's go have a word with him". With the security code for SB901 keyed in the authorization code for the small conference room where they had placed Lieutenant Jam Christianson. As they entered Nevar observed that the Bollian tactician was calmly looking out the window. He motioned for the junior officer to take a seat and then assumed one next to him. Murphy stood by the door. Before they began to talk, Nevar set up a small recording device.

"Mr. Christianson, I am Lieutenant Commander Nevar Pol, Chief of Security for this vessel and SB901. You have been informed of your rights under Federation Law and Starfleet Regulations. Do you understand that you are not obligated to respond to my questions?"

"I do."

"Fine then let's begin. Up until two weeks ago you were a respected officer on the USS Devore. You were Captain T'rax's second officer and that ship's CofS. Now two weeks later you are found leading a team of Starfleet officers on a ground attack on a Cardassian non-military facility. How did this come to be?"

The Bollian smiled "You know it won't work?" he said to Nevar.

"What won't work, Jam" replied Nevar.

"Your so called betazoid telepathy. My people like the Ferengi can't be read by the most sophisticated telepaths, let alone a half-breed such as you."

"Good to know" continued Nevar "now how did this series of events transpire?"

"You are asking the wrong questions, Pol. The key isn't how, its why?"

"Ok, so tell me Jam, why?"

"You won't believe me?"

"Try me."

"I'm telling you won't believe me. Not unless you have the science records?"

"What records?"

"Walker's data files from the Wellington. Without those there is not proof."

"Proof of what?" Nevar provided.

"That Cardassian's are in league with Species 8472"

"Species 8472?"

"Yeah, like I said you won't believe me. The counsel and Starfleet Intel wouldn't believe Walker, and so you sure as hell won't believe me."

"So according to you, the only member of Walker's Rogues to survive, Walker undertook this mutiny because the Cardassian's are in bed with some alien species that we have never heard of."

"Oh, Starfleet Intel's heard about them, so has Section 31. We've known about them since Voyager returned. But no one thought they would come to the Alpha Quadrant. So instead, the counsel buried all reference to them. They figured after the Dominion and Borg, the Federation just couldn't deal with another threat"

"And you think the Cardassian's are somehow involved with them?"

"Involved you don't know the half of. Species 8472 isn't from our dimension, let alone our quadrant. They live in fluidic space and have looking for a way to expand into our dimension."

"And the Caradassians are helping them."

"More than that man, the Caradassian's have undertaken biological experiments in an attempt to create hybrid entities that can function in both dimensions."

Nevar, without the use of his mental powers, couldn't tell for sure that Jam wasn't lying. But the young officer sure sounded like he believed what he was saying.

"And so you and Walkers' group took matters into your own hands?" "We had to, the counsel and admiralty wouldn't listen to Walker. He had no solid proof. So Walker contacted Lieutenant Commander Daren, who was in command of the Wellington, and convinced her."

"How did you get caught up in all of this?"

"My dad, man. He was the Commodore's XO for more than 13 years. Walker wanted him on board, before he set off on this mission. But my dad's sick, has been for months. So when Walker came to get him. I went instead."

"You do realize that the offences you have committed are capital in nature. It is likely, that if found guilty, you will spend the rest of your life in jail or on a penal colony?"

"Not a chance. Walker leaves no one behind."

"Lieutenant it is time you faced facts, Walker is dead. He crashed the Wellington into a Caradissian ship 3 hours ago. Most of the crew got transported off but Walker, Daren, Kovak and Vallis didn't make it. This whole thing is over."

Jam got up from his chair, smiled to himself and went back to the window. Starring blankly out into space, he softly spoke "That's what you think."

Nevar chewed on the Bollian's last words as he headed off to the bridge to discuss his findings with Wallace. Along the way he ran into Lieutenant Nugent.

"Le'chell, how are you?"

"Good Commander, thank you."

"Lieutenant your were on the bridge when the Wellington rammed the other ship, correct?"

The counsellor nodded, the image of the ships crashing into each other would sit heavily in her mind for months to come.

"Tell me Le'Chell. Did Walker send over any last minute communications or data?"

"In fact he did. Right before the....crash...we received a download of the Wellington's sensor data for the last 3 months. Problem is that we took some bad hits damaging our transever array, and it interfered with the transmission. All we got was bits and pieces. It will take weeks to figure out what he was trying to send us."

"Thank you Lieutenant." Nevar spoke as he headed to see Commander Wallace and make his report.
