"You're, you're a god?" asked the Volaxian in disbelief.
"I am indeed mon amis, and I command you to stop drinkin the blood of ze dead! It is not ealthy!"
"I will, I will" It said.
Paul undid the restraints and the Volaxian fell to its knees.
"Please, give us better lives!"
"I cannot do that mon amis. I can only offer you advice. I will need to speak with the rest of your people."
"Of course you're greatness."
Paul didn't enjoy any of this. He had broken the Prime Directive since the moment he performed a scan on that dead Volaxian.
"Look mon amis, stand up, and stop grovelling. I do not want that from ma people."
"Of course, Of course" it said standing up. "Follow me, I shall take you to the others."
Paul followed the Volaxian out of the door and back towards the sacrifice chamber. The unconscious Volaxians had all regained consciousness now and were wandering around and sitting in little groups. When they saw Paul enter, they all took defensive stances and scurried around to collect what primitive weapons they had.
"Wait! Wait! cried the Volaxian. This man is a God!"
The others all fell to their feet.
"Get up," insisted Paul. He walked more towards the centre of the room. "I am a God and I come ere before you with an important message."
He had certainly grabbed their attention as they had all gathered round and were listening intently.
"None of you, NONE of you, shall ever drink ze blood of another again. It is not ealthy."
"But we thought it pleased you," one shouted out
"Non, non, non. Ze blood zat you drink is what is causing you to become more primitive yeah? Ze more you drink, ze more primitive you become. Ze Gods do not want you to be filthy dirty creatures. We want you to be a strong, intelligent, powerful people. We want you to grow strong and to once more create buildings such as zis. Do you understand me?"
They all seemed to understand and began nodding in agreement.
"Now zat ma job is done ere, I must return to ze skies." The Volaxians didn't seem to happy that they're "God" was leaving, but they couldn't do a lot about it. Paul walked back to the runabout with the Volaxians following him. He took one last look at them and climbed aboard.
