Woodrow had built a fort of sorts, he found some wood and rocks, and piled up a few positions. Commander Kelly had taken a few mining tools, such as carts, and storage bins.
The perimeter was near the entrance to a mine tunnel. The place was only about 40 yards.
Of the thirty one Colonist, out of the group only 5 were adults, 2 were women, and were willing to defend the perimeter.
The oldest child was a 14 year old boy. Kelly gave him a phaser rifle, of the Klingon design.
Woodrow sat near the front of their lines scanning. the area below. Thearea around them was a perfect text book position to defend.
They were on high ground looking down into a valley made by the rocks, when the planet was being formed 10000 years ago.
Murphy was scanning the area, when Kelly crawled up to him. He was keeping low.
"Sir, how do you feel?"
"I feel like crap. My ribs hurt. But the doctor gives me pain killers every hour. Speaking of the time what time is it?"
"1330 hours"
"Wallace won't let us down. He fought some rather tough people in his time. Hell on AR-558, he inflicted an estimated 200 casualities, on the Dominion." Kelly said, turning onto his back, and looking at the blue sky.
"Sir I can't tell even if they message got out, I used an EM pulse, and if the Son'a recieved it and intercepted it would be all garbage."
"Hey think postive."
"I killed three men, Commander. I feel so..." Murphy said shutting his eyes and trying to imagine home and how inocent then.
"Funny you feel bad about killing armed men, who in cold blood murder of women, and childran, and old alike." Kelly rolled over and crawled to the rear and then walked into the mine.
Woodrow scanned around and saw nothing. He turned around and pulled out his water ration, and took a drink. How odd, I am not a grunt, and look at me eating rations, and carrying a phaser rifle. Damn I'll start using those battle drills, Harper uses.
