Ethan had made all the defenses that Captain Wallace had asked to make. He kept watching the dead bodies that were being made ready for burial. He had never actually seen a dead body before.
Ethan walked over to where a mass ditch was being dug, and saw a young boy not much older then 11, with brown hair, and appeared to be human. The boy's eyes were fixed, and open staring back at Ethan.
"Don't worry, we will punish who ever did this." Doctor Cherrin said putting his hand on the Cadet's shoulder.
"I've never seen a body before. Lieutenant. I've seen pictures, and such but not in person."Ethan said turning his head to the governer's building where two bodies were pulled out.
"Nothing like the real thing. Don't worry, I am sure we will not sucumb to their fate."
"Thank you sir I think I'm going to go and see if the Captain has anything else for me to do."Ethan said walking away from the doctor.
Deep down the deep body bothered him deeply, he was only 8 years older then the boy. It could of been his brother.
Ethan walked up to a position near the front of the town and looked into the woods, hoping for nothing to pop out.
After standing at his post he turned to see a Ensign wearing a red uniform,walking up to his postion. The Ensign was 23 and rather small built.
"Hey Cadet."The Ensign said.
"How's it going?"
"Alright except for this place." The Enisgn then unslung his phaser rifle, and Ethan started to walk away.
Ethan was about 12 yards away when he herd an explosion. Ethan ducked done, and turned to see the what was left of the Ensign. The Ensign's left arm and most of his left part of his chest was gone. Razek couldn't believe it. Only a few minutes ago the two were talking, in that same spot. Now one was dead.
"Okay people, get up. And be very careful." Wallace said walking over to the dead Ensign.
"It was a subspace mine, the Son'a sold these to the Dominion during the war, they were called Houdnies back then."
"How do we fight them Captain." Ethan said standing up.
"You use a tricorder, and reverse the EM field. Razek, and myself will work on the problem. Rest of you dismissed."
Ethan kept staring at the dead Ensign. He knew that could of been him laying there too.
