Richard sat at his desk reading over the report from Commander Loran on the completion of the Dilthuim processing center on SB901, to help the colonist out. Also the report contained some information on the new colonist and how they were settling in to their new home. Richard was rather pleased that the colonist had already mined 12 tons of ore in 2 days. He put the report down and stretched himself giving a big yawn.
He then walked over to his couch and took a seat. It was nice that things were going over smoothly. The Son'a were gone. The Jem'Hadar nobody knew where they were. The Hirogen were all but a memory. However Richard had a deep nagging feeling that something bad was going to go down.
[Captain Wallace, Lieutenant Kelly here.] The comm channel opened up with a calm Kelly on the other end.
"Yes?"Wallace replied tapping his comm badge, and leaning his head back in disgust.
[Captain Roberts, is on the Comm channel and wishes to speak with.]
"Ok, route it through here." Wallace said, walking over to his desk, and turning on the view screen to his computer.
Captain Roberts appeared, and seemed rather happy. He was also talking in front of his window that over looked the San Francesco Bay.[Afternoon, Captain]
"Evening here sir."Wallace replied with a chuckle.
[I'm pleased with your actions on the Bak'u planet. You've also found three new planets, that will be colonized by next week.]
"What? Excuse me sir?" Wallace was a bit taken with the news. The Planets were only explored briefly 3 days ago.
[We need new homes. And those planets will due just fine. The Colonist will be leaving tomorrow for the planet first explored by Lieutenant Deveraux.]
"Alright, fine we'll help them anyway we can."
[Now what about the monitoring of the Nebula, how has that come along?]
"Chief Murphy, and Ensign Razek will deploy the devices tomorrow."
[Ok, keep up the good work. Roberts out.] The screen went blank, and Wallace turned his computer off, and left his office.
About 15 minutes later in the commerce area, Wallace walked over to the Easy Inn. The place was starting to get busy, most of the people appeared to be people that had stopped by the station for repairs, or to rest. Wallace ordered a Ale, and walked towards the back of the establishment.
Richard then saw Lieutenant Green at a table by herself, with a mixed drink of sorts. All right, time to just be yourself. He thought to himself, as he walked up to her table. "Evening Lieutenant."
Green looked up and gave a smile, and then started to stand."No please don't get up on account of me. Mind if I sit with you and have a friendly conversation."
"No, go ahead Captain."She replied giving a smile.
"I'm not on duty, you can call me Richard." Wallace said giving a smile, and then sipping his ale.
"Fine then, you can call me Alexis. And what may I ask do you want to speak about." Alexis said giving Wallace a look of uncertainty.
"Well, tell you the truth. I'm attracted to you to you." Alexis started to get up, and walk away.
"Please, no don't go. I am not trying to get you bed, that isn't my goal here." Wallace said talking to her as she was getting ready to leave. She stopped and came back down and took a seat.
"Allow me to ask this."
"What?" Wallace replied.
"How come a Academy drop out manages to become a Commanding officer of a Star Base, and a no graduate becomes Chief Science officer when that person is disrespectful, and incompetent person. Yet me a honor graduate is passed over for Lieutenant." Green's frustration was clear, and Wallace could understand it.
"Listen, I am sorry about you being passed over. I'm still not sure why they put me a drop out in charge. All I know is you must take what ever is dealt at you. It happens for a reason.
Kah'less said. That those who don't seek leadership have it thrusted upon them."
Alexis shook her head and took a drink from her class." You understand Klingons I take it."
Wallace gave a big chuckle, and then leaned back in his chair."You know nobody understands Klingons that's how they like it. But their philosophy makes real good sense."
"Well I guess if you try and decode it. So allow me to ask you something Richard."
"Shoot."
"Why do you like me?"
"I guess your physical beauty at first, but now your brains. You have a wits that is nice to have around the station."
She kept looking at Richard in a way that almost made him feel uneasy, but he took it as a good sign. He finished his ale, and flagged down a Feringie waiter. The talked about allot, and after a few hours, Wallace escorted Lieutenant Green to her quarters.
Wallace went to his and took a seat, and thought for a few seconds. Maybe everything really does have a reason. And that reason is Lieutenant Green.
Truth was, Wallace had feelings, but was unclear if she had feelings. Of course she could be like Jadzia Dax, who toyed with men all the time. It was hard for Richard to know for sure. But he also knew honesty was the best thing now, and when he saw her again tomorrow he would tell her how he felt. of course in Private, as now he could only imagine the rumors floating around the station now.
