Murphy was in a compartment that was a little work shop in the Runabout. It wasn't that big just had a small table, and enough room for one person. The Chief was almost done with the array, he was just running a diagnostic, on the Array's computer. The diagnostic was complete and quick, as Murphy closed the access panel to the small two meter by one meter array. When the array would be deployed it would unfold three meter solar panels, for a continues power supply.
[Chief is the array ready?] Murphy herd over the comm channel. He quickly tapped his comm badge.
"Go ahead sir, and beam it over. Then we can go down the to the planet and introduce ourselves."
Ensign Razek stood up from the conn and walked back to the transporter controls, and pressed a few buttons. The Array disappeared and reappeared outside of the runabout some 15 meters away. Murphy made him self present and walked over to the Engineering section of the runabout bridge, and powered up the tractor beam, and placed the array in a safe and constraint orbit.
"Well, sir are you read for a trip to the planet?" Murphy asked.
"Yes chief, but you know we should land the runabout. but after we run a test signal to SB901."
Ensign Razek, is a good officer, and through. He will make a good senior officer. Murphy thought to himself.
"Of course, it'll take about 11 minutes for SB901 to respond." Razek added, as he headed towards the science station, and did a few readings.
Chief Murphy, then remembered that Murphy had never landed a shuttle or runabout. He then sent a message to SB901, and turned towards the Science station." Ensign let me pilot us down."
"Ok Chief." Razek said, as he sat down at the science station. Ethan was checking for where the colonist were.
"Ensign I detect a small underdeveloped settlement. On the southern cotenant. I saw about 104 humanoids."Murphy said powering the impulse engines up, and getting ready to land the runabout. Razek gave a smile of approvement as the runabout enterd the planets atmosphere. After a few minutes the Runabout landed about 3 kilometers from the settlement.
"Chief?"
"Yeah."
"Whats, it like being a chief?" Razek asked, turning his chair.
Murphy had never really given his promotion much thought. He enjoyed his job more so then his rank. He then was quite for a few minutes, and tried to think for a few minutes. Murphy then decided, to tell the truth how he honestly felt about the promotions. "Listen sir. I have a job,a Captain, and XO that are well to serve under. The rank means little. I never wanted rank. Listen Ensign never seek promotion or honor. For it'll come to you when you ready or not. Come on lets get the supplies ready and start on that walk."
Memories of New Canada came back to Murphy's head, and some were good but the bad memories came back as well. His hair on the back of his neck started to stick up. Come on man the Son'a are gone. He told himself.
