"Sniper"

Author: First Lieutenant John Anderson
Earthdate: June 11, 2384
Location: New Canada Moon

It was going on to 1200 hours, and John had an idea to help his men's odds of success. Anderson's idea was to take three men and carry out a little bit of a raid of sorts. In his experience with the Jem'hadar they had a squad of 5 men to be an advance guard. Of course when the shots rang out Anderson's unit would be out dunned. He however had a plan for that as well.

"Sergeant Bailey. Where is that TR116 rifle?" Anderson asked standing up from his position.

"It's over with the additional power packs." Bailey replied.

John walked over to where three creates marked Federation were stacked. To the side was a narrow case, and John picked that one up and laid it on top of the others, he quickly unlatched the case. The rifle and its headpiece along with 9 other clips were. He pulled it out of the foam packing and opened the bolt to check and see if the weapon was loaded.

"Sir, what are you aiming to do?" Bailey asked, not knowing what the Lieutenant was going to say.

"The Jem'Hadar have advance guards and scouts. These elements are clear in their victory strategy. When I was with the Rangers in 2374 we used these puppies to take out First Jem'hadar, and Vorta's, and Guls. Using an old warfare term called Sniping." Anderson placed a 7 shot clip into the rile, and then slung it over his shoulder. He picked up the bandoleer and put on over his web belt. He had taken off his green tunic, and looked at the dirt which was a gray tint. He knew his coat would stick out. He then rolled it in the loose soil.

"How many men are you taking?" Bailey asked, looking a little uncertain of this idea.

"I'll take Davis, and that Bajoran?"

"Ompkia?" Bailey knew the name of everyman in his unit and their race.

"Yes." John put his now dirty tunic on and gathered his two men, and they headed out to cause havoc.

The walk lasted about 25 minutes before PFC Davis picked up some Jem'Hadar on his tricorder. The readings came from a valley about 3 Kilometers away from their current position. The readings picked up 5 Jem'Hadar.

The moon was starting to get warm as noon rolled around, and the three Marines began to sweat, and feel tired from the heat. Lieutenant Anderson kept his men to press on. The stopped about 1000 meters from the valley where the life signs were picked up.

Lance Corporal Ompkia pulled out a pair of binoculars, and scanned ahead. It appeared the Jem'Hadar had a advance position to serve as a staging point for the main attacks. They also seem to be holding a defensive position as well. Three Jem'Hadar were standing guard in the front. There was in the rear going over what looked like a computer console. The fifth Jem'Hadar appeared to be really doing nothing except walking down and up the line of defense.

Ompkia handed over the binoculars to Anderson, and almost was ready to say something. When Anderson made gesture to keep his trap shut. John knew that anything above a normal whisper would be picked up. He looked around the position and then put his head set on.

John turned it on and everything was yellow. He scanned around and had to think on which target he would take out first before any of the others would realize. He then remembered his father's hunting lessons. Take the rear one first and work your way up.

He rotated the zoom part on the rifle and placed the cross hairs over the Jem'Hadar working the Computer console. The zoom was at 75 and he could see the carotid artery pulsating. John took a deep breath and exhaled as he did he squeezed the trigger.

The displaced shot hit with in 1.3 seconds. The Jem'Hadar fell back wards with in a tenth of a second. The Bullet hit his right temple causing instant death. John quickly aimed at the walking Jem'Hadar as he turned around. Another displaced shot struck its target as he looked to see the abandon computer Console.

Johns heart raced unlike anything he had felt before, he quickly found another target and fired hitting the third Jem'Hadar in the back of the head, he repeated it again within seconds the other two were dead. John felt a rush of excitement in his body never felt before. He stood up from laying down and turned his headpiece off, and looked at his stunned men.

"Holy shit. Sir. You took out five Jem'hadar in less then 1 minute." Davis said scanning ahead with his tricorder.

John was curios about the computer terminal the one Jem'Hadar was working on. "Davis cover Ompkia and I as we see what the Jem'hadar was working on." Anderson pulled out his type II phaser and walked down to the position very cautiously.

The Jem'Hadar lied in their death position and still were oozing blood. It took a few seconds to get where the first shot was fired, and the screen and controls had blood spatters. Anderson pressed a few buttons and then pulled out his tricorder to tap into the relay to see what it was.

The Console was a monitoring device it monitored the surrounding area of the Valley, it was however scanning another sector of the valley. If John would of waited a few more seconds the Jem'Hadar would of picked the whole unit up.

Lieutenant Anderson then took about 20 steps away from the console and fired his phaser at it disabling it. He then looked around at stared a few seconds at the dead Jem'hadar laying in their own blood. He almost felt guilty about the fact he didn't feel any sorrow for those people.
