"A Hero's Return"

Author: Lieutenant Commander David McAllister
Earthdate: August 19, 2384
Location: USS Dantes

He still couldn't believe it, here he was, in command of a starship, although it only for this mission, he was enjoying it. David raised his head from the reports he was reading as the ops officer informed him they were approaching their rendezvous.

"Hail the Jem'Hadar ship," ordered Dave.

"They are signaling they are ready for transport."

"Beam the prisoners aboard. I'll be in the transporter room. Make sure that our ship is returned too."

Dave left the bridge and headed for the transporter room. Under the surrender treaty of the New Dominion, they were required to turn over all Federation prisoners and property. The Dantes had been sent as one of the many ships to pick up and transport prisoners back to SB901.

The doors slid open and Dave walked in among twenty, bruised and beaten Starfleet officers. A lot of these men and women had been prisoners since near the beginning of the conflict. One man strode out of the crowd and embraced Dave.

"Sank you mon amis," he said

"You must be Lieutenant Deveraux?" asked Dave taking a step away from the filthy, smelly officer before him.

"Oui."

"Congratulations are in order, Lieutenant. You managed to take out that relay station before getting captured, the Federation owes you a great debt. With that station gone, we held the advantage over the Jem'Hadar."

"Ey, mon amis, I woz juzt doin my duty," said Paul.

As the officers around the room heard of what Paul had done, they began to cheer for him. Paul looked around and went and started shaking their hands, lapping up all the attention.

"Excuse me, Mr. Deveraux, we need to get you all back to SB901. You will have time to party later when you're there." Paul reluctantly pulled himself away from the cheering officers and followed Dave out the door.
