With Kim home, Garek's world became a little brighter. His normal, every day routine didn't seem to bore him to death as much. Plus, now he had a new challenge in front of him. How am I going to hide this wedding present I'm working on? The question was a big one, because the gift was proportionally as big. The size of a docking bay big. Plus, whether she knew it or not, Kim had the ability to read minds. Not word for word like telepaths, but she could definitely tell if Garek's got a surprise planned for her or not. This was not going to be easy.
Kim had been assigned quarters in the old Banshee flight quarters which were currently being phased over to normal ones for junior officers. Garek made sure to pull a few strings to make sure that her room was upgraded to a senior officers status. It was the least he could do for his fiancee. More pressing matters were on his mind currently: The USS Ronin.
"Maxin, I want those compression disks set in the right places this time!" Chief Engineer Gregholt yelled up to one of his engineers."
"Any way I can be of service?" Garek asked, approaching the seemingly over worked engineer.
Steven smiled. "Any help at all would be great Commander. We've got a damaged transwarp drive, and some fluctuations in the structural integrity field, not to mention a few problems with our replicator systems, and assorted other little pains in the butt."
Garek nodded. "The transwarp drive shouldn't be a problem."
"Really? Why do you say that?"
Garek grinned. "Well, it's a long story." He tapped his commbadge. "Kimmie, you there?"
[Aside from rearranging my quarters, I'm here.]
"I don't suppose you could give me a hand on the?"
[I'll be there faster then your Flier could ever hope to move,] she teased.
Garek laughed to himself. "All right, let's see that transwarp manifold." The two engineers made their way past the busy engineers towards the warp core.
MacDonnel's....
With nearly all the work completed on the Ronin, Garek and Kim left to get something to eat. With MacDonnel's cleaned up after the Pickachu incident, Connor, the owner of the establishment, owed him and Paul Deveraux a free meal. Garek was cashing in. "How are you Connor?" Garek asked as the burly Scotsman walked over to Garek and Kim.
"How are ye Garek? I see ye brought the we lass with ye." He looked over to Kim. "How are ye Kimmie?"
"Doing well Connor," Kim replied with a smile. Connor gleefully showed them to an open table and took their orders. As Connor left, Garek smiled at Kim. Kim smiled back, and the two continued smiling at each other for the next few moments. "What is it you big dufus?! You've been grinning at me for the past minute!" she teased.
"I have something for you."
"Really! What is it?"
"A wedding gift," Garek teased. "One that's right up your alley."
"You're not going to tell me what it is?" Kim asked.
"Kinda defeats the purpose silly." Garek smiled. "Think of it as extra incentive to stay with the man of your dreams," he teased.
Kim playfully kicked Garek under the table, leaving Garek to reach down and rub his shin. Things were finally getting back to normal.
