Troy looked up again. "We have a problem." He pointed to his scalpel. "Whatever's protecting your child is also going to kill it if I can't cut into you."
With only 30 Klingons left of the original 50, the Bajorans had been forced to go hand-to-hand with them. One Bajoran attacked a Klingon with his sword. The Klingon blocked the blade and stuck his bat'leth into his gut. Coran ran up to the same Klingon, dodged the Klingon's bat'leth twice. Then, he blocked a second attack with his blade and sliced across the Klingon's chest. The Klingon keeled over as a second Klingon attacked from behind. Coran blocked the attack and impaled the Klingon's foot with his sword. Quickly, Coran lifted the downed Klingon's bat'leth and used it to decapitate his opponent.
Jarrod blocked two bat'leth blows with his rifle. On the third, he blocked, kicked the Klingon, and shot him before he could react. He then shot two other Klingons and roundhoused a third, dropping his weapon and finishing him off with one of the downed Klingon's bat'leths.
"Praise the Light!" yelled a Bajoran just before he was sliced across the back by a Klingon with a dagger.
Kara Lac shot at that Klingon from her secure position within the cabin and fired at a second one who tried to enter the cabin. "I'm protecting my Queen," she kept whispering to herself as she fired upon another Klingon.
Troy took a weapon and ran out into the fight. He motioned for Kara to go downstairs and stay with Katianna. Then, he ran over a Klingon and out of the cabin. Outside, Troy noted bodies piling the ground, both Bajoran and Klingon. He quickly ran to Jarrod. "We need the bird of prey."
"What?" asked Jarrod.
"We need their ship. At least one of them, or Katianna and her child will die."
Jarrod motioned at the birds of prey that were beginning to lift off. "That will be a problem."
Troy ran into the cabin, down into the basement, grabbed a huge weapon that hung on the wall, lugged it up the stairs and out of the cabin. He aimed at the bird of prey closest to the surface. "Leaving so soon?" He fired.
A huge red blast exited the weapon's barrel and blew one of the bird of prey's wings. The ship doubled back and swooped around, crash landing just in front of the clearing. Troy and Jarrod ran to the ship and made their way to the airlock.
Jarrod quickly opened the lock and pulled out his phaser. Troy pulled out a plasma gun. They jumped into the ship. Troy whispered to Jarrod, "I need to get the transporter working. I'll head to the transporter room. You make sure that the ship's systems aren't damaged."
Jarrod nodded, and they headed off in opposite directions. Jarrod walked carefully through the ship, walking around bulkheads and over Klingon bodies. Before long, he arrived at engineering. He stepped in carefully, making sure that there was no danger.
Jarrod snuck up to the control panel on the wall. "I'm here. Systems appear to have gone into standby due to the crash. I'm restarting main power. All systems should be functional in five, four, three--"
One disruptor blast crashed against the control panel, shattering it. The next hit Jarrod in the side. Jarrod pulled his phaser out and shot the Klingon in the forehead. Then, he fell to the floor, grasping at his wound.
[Are you okay, Jarrod?] asked Troy. [I'm not reading main power coming online.]
Jarrod lifted his hand to show a large wound glowing blue. He covered it with his hand, winced for a moment as his hand began to glow, and the wound was gone. "I'm fine." Jarrod pulled off the console to see a few burnt out circuits. "I'll get power online in a minute."
Troy urged, "We don't have much time."
Katianna screamed and tightened her grasp around Kara Lac's hand.
Laurissa, who had taken a seat at the far end of the wall, asked, "Is mommy going to be all right?"
Kara looked at her sadly. "I don't know. I don't know."
Jarrod yelled, [Done!]
Troy smiled. "All right." He pressed a few buttons. "Here we go."
Kara gasped when she saw a light glowing over Katianna's belly. Her belly was slowly shrinking. "What's--?"
Katianna yelled, "It's the baby! Grab it!"
Kara Lac leaned over and grabbed the baby just as it materialized and fell. The boy was crying.
Katianna laughed painfully. "Is it okay?"
"It's fine, my queen. It is a beautiful baby boy, though I'm not sure what species."
Katianna smiled as she received the child from Kara. Laurissa stepped up to look at it.
Coran stepped into the basement. "This war is not over. I came with over 20 men, and I am left with barely five, including myself. And if your child was not the great evil, then another great evil is awakening at this hour, and we have done nothing to prevent it."
Katianna looked at Coran. "Thank you for sacrificing so much to save my child."
Coran genuflected. "It is our duty, as it will always be, to serve the Light."
"So what do you suppose this great evil is?"
Location: Starbase 901
Dr. Cherrin performed his daily report at the bedside of Lt. Commander Jovan Kalimar. "The commander has not responded to treatment, and I doubt he ever will. The chances of Lt. Commander Kalimar awaking are slim at best. Upon Commander Nadira's return, I will recommend that she disconnect him from life support. By keeping him here, we are only fueling a false hope. End log."
Dr. Cherrin put his tricorder down, shook his head, and walked off.
As soon as Dr. Cherrin left, Jovan's hand twitched. His cortical readings began to rise.
And his eyes opened.
