(...CONTINUED FROM "An Unusual Idea")

Q snapped his fingers, and Garek was standing outside of Kim Tycho's quarters with a bouquet of roses...

Garek sighed. This is not something that was going to be easy. How do you explain to your fiancé that you're an omnipotent being? More importantly then that, how do you convince her to give up her life, family, and friends to be one of these beings with you? He swore quietly to himself. He turned away from the door and looked up at the ceiling with a look of grief. He closed his eyes momentarily to think about what he would say to Kim. What could he say? Kim, I'm a Q, he thought to himself. No, it wasn't the best way to break the ice. Deciding that it would have to be done eventually, he turned to face the door.

As if by divine intervention the door to Kim's quarters opened. Kim stood in the doorway wearing her mechanic's jumpsuit. "Garek!" she exclaimed. She wrapped her arms around his neck and gave him a kiss. "I was just thinking about you!" Garek smiled, and looked in to her eyes. It was an empty look though, and Kim didn't have to be a psychic to look through it. "What's wrong?"

"It's nothing," Garek said, trying to be shrug off what he was going to tell her.

"That's crazy. I know that look," she responded quickly. "What's wrong?"

"I think we'd better sit down to talk about this." Kim moved aside so Garek could walk in. He sat down on the couch, placing the flowers on the table. Kim sat down next to him.

She stared into his eyes. "What is it? What's wrong?"

"I have to tell you something, and I'm not sure how to do it." Garek looked down at the floor as if it would give him the answer.

"You're not breaking up with me, are you?" The tone had changed slightly showing a hint of anger.

"No!" Garek answered quickly, relocking his gaze at her. "Not in a million years." He kissed her reassuringly. "There's a problem with me."

"No kidding!" she gave a little laugh.

"Not quite," Garek replied. "I think it would be better if I showed you." Taking a deep breath, he raised his hand, and then snapped his fingers.

Scene: One of Risa's many beaches

Before Kim knew what was going on, she found herself looking out at the green/blue waters infront of her. The sand was as white as the brightest light. A man approached wearing standard Risian shorts and a deeply cut v-neck shirt. "What can I get you miss?" he asked. Kim continued to look at him with some disbelief.

"She'll have a Ruby Bliels," Garek said. Kim spun around to see Garek standing behind her. "It's her favorite. I'll have one too."

"Of course sir," the man replied. He headed off in the opposite direction toward the drink hut.

"What's going on?!" Kim asked with sum astonishment.

"Kim, this is what I was trying to tell you. I'm a... well, I'm a Q."

"A Q?" she looked at him with some disbelief.

"The boy's right, he's a Q." The man had returned, except this time it was Q wearing the same clothes as the waiter.

"What's going on here," Kim asked, now completely befuddled.

"Allow me to explain." Q handed the two the drinks, and stuck his hands in his pockets as he began to pace the beach infront of them.

"As I have already explained to Garek, the Q Continuum is on the verge of another civil war. Having a child apparently wasn't enough for the Continuum, and they want an outsider to become one of us. They tasked me with choosing a person to join, and my first choice was your fiancé."

"Why him?" Kim flung her arms in the air. "Why not any of the billions of other beings in the galaxy?"

"To put it frankly my dear Ms. Tycho, none of them were as fun to play with as Garek here. He reminded me a little bit of Jean-Luc."

Kim brushed a single tear away from her eyes which were beggining to well up. "What about me?" She looked at Garek. "What about us?"

"That's why I brought you here. I want you to come with me Kim. I would rather die the go without you."

She gave him a large hug, holding on to him. "Then what's the problem?"

"The problem," Q picked up, "is that you would sever your ties to this world. You would live in the continuum, and visits back to Earth would be few and far between." He looked at the two. "That is why Garek is having a hard time. He's wondering if you will join him." There were a few moments as Garek and Kim switched from looking at Q to each other. "I'll take my leave of you, and let you figure out what you'll do." Q snapped his fingers and was gone.

With Q gone, it left Garek and Kim gazing in to each others eyes. Garek wiped away another tear that began to work its way down Kim's cheek. "Don't cry," he said with a small, reassuring smile. He snapped his fingers and the two were standing in her quarters again. "Q gave me a deadline of three days. He has to have an answer in three days as to what we're going to do. I also have things that I have to take care off. Mostly with my parents." He smiled. "Please, I want you to do whatever will make you happy. When you're happy, I'm happy." He gave her a kiss on the forehead. "I'll be back." He snapped his fingers and was gone, leaving Kim in her room alone with her thoughts.
