Tara sighed as Kassia helped her limp over to the medics that had set up a site triage. She couldn't believe that she had fought the same man she had seen around the station. She'd never suspected, but then, none of them had suspected. Her uniform was a bit ragged now and her hair, though still pulled back and away from her face was a bit disheveled.
"That's pretty amazing what you did," she said to Kassia.
Kassia shrugged as they walked. "Well, at least the station is protected," she replied. "And I'm glad you're all right."
As they arrived at the triage area, Kassia made sure a medic took Tara's hand before she left. She wanted to make sure Tara was in good hands. Once that was done, she told them to take good care of her friend and walked away.
"So where does it hurt, ma'am?" the medic asked.
"My leg," she replied, with a sigh. "I had a long drop on it..."
Immediately he began to scan her as her mind wandered over all the events that just happened - Kassia, Kalimar... The spell... Getting picked up by some power and then dropped... She didn't hear what the medic said as he spoke to her. Her mind so focused on her own thoughts.
"Hairline fracture of the femur," the medic said as he used a bone knitter on it. "There. You'll have a bruise but that'll clear up in a few days. Other than that, you're fine!" At the station next to her, Tara saw Jayson being checked over by another tech.
"Are you all right?" she asked with deep concern in her green eyes.
"Chippf toof," he said as the medic checked him over. She used a tissue regenerator on Jayson's mouth and smiled at him. "You'll be fine. No solid foods for 24 hours while that sets, though!"
Jayson turned to Tara. "Chipped a tooth when that forcefield hit me!"
Tara shook her head. "At least things weren't worse," she said.
"Very true. It looks like they could have been a great deal worse!" Jayson replied. "It's a good thing the Captain had us ready for it."
She nodded. "And, of course, I had a special briefing since I went up again Kalimar. . . I still can't believe Kalimar is a demon... I guess I just never believed in that sort of thing before," she replied. "It makes my head spin to a degree..."
Jayson nodded. "I guess it goes to show that no matter how much you think you know, you can always be surprised! And that skryll of yours sure was sure a surprise to me. I didn't realize Chiron had that much power," Jayson said with a smirk.
"Neither did I, actually. I hadn't had a reason to find out before," she replied, still unsettled.
Jayson placed his arm around Tara's shoulders. "Now, as Ryan would probably say, 'You've defended a deep space station from attack by demons. It's Miller Time.'" Let me buy you one--at least that's something the dentist hasn't taken from me for the next day!
With that, she smiled and laughed softly. If he was right about one thing, this was it. She had definitely earned a drink! "Lead on," she replied. For a moment, she rested her head on his shoulder as they walked.
"Now this is what it's all about!" Jayson said softly as they walked to the nearest bar.
