"Taking the Prize"

Author: Rear Admiral Richard Wallace, Lieutenant John Barnes
Earthdate: March 29, 2385
Location: Iwo Jima

Wallace sat in the Iwo Jima's command chair feeling the resentment from the ship's crew. Richard felt some sort of remorse for doing what he had done. However, he knew it was in the Federation's best interest.

"Captain Bicardi, you have the bridge. Lieutenant Vansen, how long till we reach SB901?" Wallace said, standing up and adjusting his tunic.

"Seven hours and forty minutes, Admiral," Vansen said, moving her fingers over the controls as Wallace nodded his head and entered the turbo-lift.

It took about ten minutes to arrive outside Boyle's quarters. Richard took a deep breath and then pressed the door chime. [Enter]

Wallace walked in to see Major Boyle without his green tunic. Boyle gave a look of surprise upon seeing the man he really despised right at that time. "Yes, Admiral?"

"Listen we've secured the alien spacecraft without a single casualty. Also, I'm placing you back in command again. I am sorry I had to do that. I know you were acting in your crew's best interest and yours." Wallace paused and crossed his arms.

"Very well, sir. I'll be on the bridge shortly. Sir, when was the last time you had some rest?" Boyle said as he looked at the Admiral's face and saw signs of fatigue.

"About twenty hours, Major. I'm going to send a secure message to SB901 then rest for a little bit." Wallace went to his quarters and relayed his message to SB901.

"Are you reading me, Captain Mallory?" Wallace asked when the Captain's image appeared.

[Yes, sir. I hope your mission was a success, Admiral.]

"It was. I need you to set up Docking Bay 3 for Level 6 Security. Tell Chief McLeod to arrange a 24-hour security detail. Also notify one of your doctors that he's needed to perform a detailed examination of these alien corpses were bringing in."

[Very well, sir. I am a little excited to see what you caught.]

"I'm sure Tarik is too. Wallace out." Richard shut the view screen off and took his tunic off and fell asleep. It seemed as he just fell asleep that the Iwo's comm channel beeped.

"Yes" Wallace said struggling to find his comm badge.

[We've docked. Sir] Boyle's voice informed the Admiral.

At the air lock Wallace was greeted by Kitty and Tarik. Tarik almost appeared to be smiling. "Ah, I see you were very productive." Tarik said shaking the Admiral's hand.

"Yes, without a single loss of Marine life. Your Lieutenant McKnight was very efficient. His reputation seems to be well-earned," Wallace replied, handing Tarik a PADD.

"Doctor Barnes is in Science Lab 3. He's awaiting further instructions," Kitty informed him.

"Very well. You want to accompany me? I trust everything you see you'll keep quiet."

The three officers went to the science lab where a rather young-looking man was waiting. Wallace introduced himself and told the Doctor that had to keep all findings to himself and to Wallace alone. Shortly after that 16 stasis pods were brought in.

A squad of Marines placed two of the dead Aliens on the table. Tarik and Kitty where impressed with there size. Barnes went to work right away.

The aliens were about 2.5 meters tall and weighed over 125 kilograms. They appeared to have a very well built musculature. The specimens also seemed to have a sort of PADD on their their left arm which was removed and placed in a security container for Deveraux to work on. The specimens also had a helmet that hid a rather animalistic face and a jaw that resembled a African beetle's. Their long hair was braided.

Barnes scanned the aliens and detected 12 strands of DNA from different species "Wow, this is very impressive. Jem'Hadar DNA, Vulcan, Romulan, Human, Klingon and Nausicaan. It also appears they are a product of extensive genetics building.

"They have two hearts like a Klingon. Their skin is rather tough. Interesting--they have a very primitive digestive system. It appears to be only able to handle a protien paste loaded with ketracell white.

"No reproductive organs. It looks they are stronger physically than any species on file. " Barnes then walked over to a table and picked up a laser scalpel.

"I think I'd better leave now," Kitty said knowing that part of this examination she could do without.

Wallace and Tarik leaned over where Barnes was planning to make a cut. However, the laser scalpel only burned the first layer of tissue and was unable to go any further.

"Sirs, this is going to take some time. I'll get back to you with the results."

As the men left the room Wallace tapped his comm badge. "Admiral Wallace here."

[Go ahead.]

"I need two of your best Engineers to perform a detailed scan of the ship and its technology."

[Gladly sir]
