"Just visualize it," Kassia smiled as she looked at Jovani as she sat across from him in the back room of her shop.
Around the room several white and purple candles were burning and the smell of incense was in the air to help concentration and focus. On the table between the two of them was a round, smooth, clear crystal, no bigger than an ancient Earth half dollar. Jovani looked at it and it moved slightly, rattling a little bit, but nothing more.
"It's okay. Keep trying," Kassia replied. "Just see in your mind what you want to make the crystal do and it will happen. Just focus."
He didn't break his gaze with the crystal, but she could feel his concentration grow. His focus and what he wanted was growing clearer in his mind. He could see the crystal move toward Kassia. That's what he wanted it to do and then suddenly there was movement on the table. The clear crystal between them moved. It was slow, but the movement steady. It made its way to Kassia. Kassia caught it in her hand and smiled.
"There," she replied. "Now isn't that exhilirating?" Her green eyes sparkled in the light of the candles.
"I can't believe it! I did that?"
"It wasn't me," she laughed. "I told you that you had the gift inside. With steady practice you could become quite good. Of couse, this is only part. You've been studying the other books I've given you?" she asked, knowing he had, but feeling it was an obligatory question.
"Yeah," he replied enthusiastically. "I've read all about the universal magic - the use of candles, stones, herbs, personal energy, tarot cards, runes, the stars . . ."
"Good!" she replied. "Now, if I were to say to you that I needed a spell of personal protection, tell me one thing I could do?"
"Cast a spell using an amulet," he replied. "The amulet would then become the source of the protection. As long as you were wearing it a field of protection would be there."
"In candle magic, what color is blue used for?" she asked casually.
"It's used for healing; peace; psychism; patience and happiness. Its the color of water, of sleep and of twilight," he replied with a smile.
What about pink?" she asked with a smile.
"That's for love;friendship;compassion;relaxation. It can be used for self-love. It's ideal for weddings and for all forms of emotional unions."
She nodded. "Very good. Now what did you read about the uses of Amethyst?" she asked.
"It can be used in rituals to help break addictions, with sleep, to help remember dreams or to have psychic dreams, it can be used to create or foster friendship, promote a sense of peace . . . uhm, it can help release jealousy and help make one excel in an interview . . . It also helps ease stress and promote psychic awareness!" he finished. "I think that's very. Yeah, that's everything."
"Yes, that is," she replied.
"Now, what herbs might you use in a ritual to aid you in your studies?" she asked as she gazed at him.
"OH! I just read this too!" he replied as he thought about it. "Gum mastic and rosemary!"
"That's very good. You've definitely been reading!" she smirked.
"Yes!" he replied as he gazed at her with a brilliant smile.
"Okay, now comes some fun stuff," she replied, her green eyes twinkling. "We come to the part about spells . . . You do realize, this is a little bit of a crash course, so you'll have to do more reading on your own."
"Yeah, whatever you give me to read, I'll read!" he replied.
"All right, good! Now . . .On to the spells," she said. "FIrst you have to determine the spell's goal. What do you want it to do? That's the very first thing you have to figure out. And it can't be a whim. It has to be something you feel is important you. A real need. Determine the element involved and then the materials to be used, if any. There are instances when time of day and season will influence when you will want to perform your spells. There are even special instances if you were planetside, such as thunder and rain storms, high winds or snow storms. Now to the actual composition," she smiled. "When you write a spell clearly state your need and state all dimensions of it. Such as, instead of just protection, you would say complete protection. Instead of love, you would say enduring love . . . Sometimes if you're using tools, such as candles or stones, use these things in your spell. It might help you write it. Also try matching the words with the type of ritual. Something for a love ritual you would hardly want to use words that were short and harsh. You would want words that were soft and flowing. And lastly don't expect the words to just come. They won't. You might have to practice on a specific spell before it fits into place. It will take time, but it will work. And as I know you already know this, but will restate it anyway, just for the lesson," she smirked, "Rhyming is not necessary for spells. But for many, it helps the magic weaver to attain the mental state they need to perform the spell. The most important thing is still, of course, visualization. Your words should help you focus on what you're trying to visualize . . ."
"Right," he replied knowingly at that last part. "I want to try to move the crystal again."
He gazed at the crystal; his focus intense. Slowly it moved, but Kassia felt something grow within his mind. Immediately the crystal stopped in its path and he grabbed his head in pain.
"Owwwwww! Headache!"
Kassia nodded and went to him. "These can happen," she explained. "They're called reaction headaches . . . Your mind isn't use to this. Here, let me help you."
Gently she touched his temples and the pain eased away. He looked at her with surprise.
"The headache's gone!" he replied.
"Glad I could help," she smiled. "But it also means our session is over for today. You can practice at home, but I don't want you doing any of the telekenetic stuff until tomorrow. Give your mind a bit of a break from that. You can do some reading instead. In fact, I have these selections prepared for you," she smirked as she handed him a couple of actual books. "Also, wait here a moment." She disappeared out of the room briefly, but returned with a bag in her hand, which she handed to him. "This is a special tea. If the headaches come back, make a cup. The seeping directions are on the bag. But be careful. Reaction headaches can be deadly if you push yourself too hard."
"I'll keep that in mind," he replied.
"Be sure that you do," Kassia said as she went to a table and picked up a long stemmed, white rose bud. Gently and before Jovani's eyes, he watches as she moved her hand over the bud once and it opened its petals in a glorious bloom. As she looked at his face, she smiled and handed him the rose. "Keep this as a small reminder of what can be.
As he took the rose, he smiled. All possibilies open to him.
