USS Ronin
Ryan was sitting in his makeshift ready room. The bunks had been removed and
he now had a desk and a chair, but nothing else. The door to the bridge hadn't
been constructed yet either. Ryan had just sat down to get to work when the
door chime rang.
"Come in" Ryan called. The doors slid open and Ganak Trass stepped in. "What can I do for you Lieutenant?"
"Captain, I uh, requested a transfer a few days ago. Starfleet have offered me a post aboard Starbase 157. The transport will be leaving tomorrow sir. I thought I'd better tell you." "It's a bit late now isn't it Lieutenant? Why didn't you come to me about this before?"
"I didn't want to raise the issue unless command agreed to it."
"Can I ask why you want to transfer?"
"I've spent most of my career on starships, however I did serve aboard a station for a while. I liked it there and have decided that I would prefer a post aboard a Starbase. Plus I'm not much use on a Defiant class vessel, what with there being no science lab."
"So it has nothing to do with this upcoming war with the Bariens?" Ryan asked with a raised eyebrow
"How do you mean Captain?" asked Trass becoming a little edgy
"Its all right Lieutenant I know how you feel. You've never been in a combat situation before and wars are not everyone's cup of tea. Go ahead and transfer Lieutenant, I'm just sorry that we didn't get to serve together longer."
"Thank you sir"
"Dismissed" Trass stood at attention turned and then left. Ryan sighed and sat back in his chair. He needed a strong drink and there was only one place around here that he could get one - Quarks.
DS9
Ryan was walking across the top level of the promenade looking out of the windows in the hope that he would see the wormhole opening. In all of his career, he had never actually caught a glimpse of the wormhole. He passed many a window but the wormhole didn't open, however Ryan saw something else that caught his attention. It was what appeared to be the Hellcat docking at the station. Ryan stood at once as moments later the airlock opened and Captain Devore stepped out with a woman in a blue uniform. Ryan, knowing that Devore was going to be leading the attack hurried down and followed them at a quickened pace. Devore and the woman then turned and entered the infirmary,
*Odd Ryan thought to himself, What they be doing there*
He followed them in but stopped in the doorway when he noticed they were standing around a biobed with a cadet lying on it speaking with an Admiral.
*Better leave them to it* Ryan thought and continued on his way to Quarks. He entered Quark's and sat down at the bar next to some officers in gold uniforms.
"Excuse me, Ferengi!"
"The name's Quark. Don't call me Ferengi. Now what'll it be?" the Ferengi asked as he approached Ryan.
"A pint of lager."
"Coming right up Captain."
Ryan looked around and noticed a lot of Klingons laughing and drinking blood wine in the centre of the room. As you would expect from Klingons, they were making a lot of noise, making customers edgy and shouting abuse at the Ferengi waiters.
"Ferengi! Come here you sniveling little troll. Get me another blood wine!" Demanded one of the Klingons.
"I am not a sniveling Troll " cried the Ferengi.
"Do you want to make something of it Ferengi?" replied the Klingon pushing over the table as he rose to his feet.
"No, not at all" said the Ferengi cowering away. The Klingon pulled a knife on the Ferengi and stepped towards him. A Bajoran security officer grabbed the Klingons arm but the Klingon gave him a single uppercut and he fell to the floor. At this point all the other Bajoran security officers rushed at the Klingons to try and calm them down. However the other Klingons were already standing ready for battle. A full scale brawl ensued. It wasn't long before the Klingons and Romulans hatred for each other sparked up and the Romulans were then drawn into the fight along with a few Starfleet officers that had been accidentally hit. Ryan thought this was enough and as a Captain, felt it was his responsibility to put an end to this. He put down his drink and stepped forward. He happened to notice standing with the Romulans was Ensign Benosk. Benosk was under Ryans command so he decided to start there.
"All right break it up" he said pulling a Klingon off Benosk who had now fallen to the floor. He extended his hand to pull Benosk up when the Klingon smashed a stool on his back. Ryan fell to the floor too and happened to notice the engineers from the bar rushing into the fight as well. One of them ran towards him and helped him up.
"Are you all right Captain?"
"Yes I'm fine. Who are you?"
"Lieutenant Elias McQueen, sir. And you, if you don't mind me asking?"
"Captain Ryan Evans" Ryan said ducking a chair
"Of the Ronin"
"Yes"
"Well hello there Captain" he said grabbing his hand and shaking it firmly. "I'm your new chief engineer."
"You are?"
"Yes, now what say we show these Klingon bastards what we're made of." Elias, seeming happy to be in a bar fight charged off into the middle of the fight.
"Lieutenant wait!!" But he couldn't here him. Ryan turned to Benosk who had a head wound. He picked him up and helped him to the bar.
"Why are you helping that Romulan P'taq" called a Klingon
"He's my officer and I have to take charge of him"
"He is Romulan, you should let him die. Let me kill him and be done with it."
"That's not very honorable is it." The Klingon said nothing and decided to attack Ryan instead so him and the Klingon began to fight. The Klingon managed to land a good right hook on Ryan and he fell unconscious.
A Holding Cell
"Owww, my head" said Ryan sitting up
"Don't worry it'll feel better soon" said Lieutenant McQueen. Ryan sat up quickly and noticed he was in a holding cell with McQueen and Benosk.
"Glad to see your awake Captain" Ryan turned and saw Commodore Sisko and Admiral Ross standing outside the force field.
"This is not what I expect from a Captain" said Ross. "Would you care to tell me your side of the story?"
"I was just protecting my officer Admiral. Ensign Benosk was injured. I tried to pull him out, but a Klingon attacked me."
"I see, but did it occur to you to try and talk your way out of it."
"With all due respect Admiral, have you ever tried reasoning with a Klingon?"
"He does have a point Admiral" added Sisko. "This isn't the first fight that Klingons have started in Quarks." Ross signaled to Sisko to follow him and they stepped away and talked amongst themselves.
"Don't worry, nothing will happen to you... this time" said McQueen."
"I'm really sorry Captain added Benosk. It's my fault."
"Don't worry about it Ensign. Its not your fault that you are Romulan."
"I know that Captain but I shouldn't have got involved in the fight anyway."
"Forget about it Ensign." Ross and Sisko stepped back over.
"For now you are free to go" stated Ross "but be warned! Another outbreak like this and it will cost you your command.
"Yes sir." A security officer lowered the forcefield and the three officers left the brig.
*Great* Ryan thought. *10 days as
a Captain and I've already been threatened with demotion.* He had a feeling
that if Commodore Sisko hadn't been there, he would have lost command for sure
