"Among The Debris"

Author: Captain Ryan Evans
Date: January 29, 2384
Location: Bridge

Slowly Ryan regained consciousness and tried to pull himself up, but he felt this stabbing pain in his shoulder. He looked at it and saw a huge piece of jagged glass sticking out of his shoulder. He noticed that he was lying in a pile of broken glass too, and looked behind him to see the view screen with the rough indent of his body smashed into it.

*That would explain this headache* he thought to himself. He realized he had to do something about his shoulder quickly, so with his healthy arm, he grabbed the helm and pulled himself up. He looked up to see a huge hole in the ceiling of the bridge looking straight out into space *My God! Its a wonder I survived* he started to walk but fell again. Realizing that his leg was broken, he started pulling himself along the floor to the emergency medi kit at the back of the bridge. After a lot of pain and effort he finally reached it and lay back with a sigh. He opened up the box and took out the bandages. He looked at the glass, took a hold of it with his hand and took a deep breath.

"AAAAARRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!!" He cried as he pulled it out. "God Damn it!" He unzipped his tunic and reached under and began applying the bandages. He sat there until he had the bleeding under control. He looked up at the hole in the hull and noticed the ship was now in what looked to be a nebula.

"Captain Evans to Commander Heim" he said tapping his comm. badge

[...............................]

"Captain Evans to engineering"

[...............................]

"Captain Evans to anyone who can hear me, please respond?"

"I hear you captain" came a voice from another part of the bridge

"Marc? Is that you?"

"Yeah, I'm under your chair" he called back. Ryan pulled himself along the ground and pulled away his chair and some other debris to reveal Lieutenant Steele "Ryan, I can't move" he said. Ryan looked over him and realized that there wasn't much hope for him.

"Hold on Lieutenant I'm sure we'll be rescued soon. Captain Evans to sickbay, respond!"

[...........................]

"Its no good captain, internal communications are down. We're stuck here."

"I'm sure they're trying to get to us"

"Captain, don't bother. I know your just trying to keep my spirits up. We both know what's going to happen. Cough, cough"

"Look, Lieutenant I've already lost Solas and god knows how many other people on this ship. I'm not going to let you die as well"

"Cough, cough, its too late" he replied coughing up blood. "There's a....... message in the computer.... cough.... for my family..... make sure they get it?........ please?" he said grabbing Ryan by the arm with a bloody hand.

"I'll see that they get it" Ryan said with a smile.

"Good.............. cough...............................cough" Steeles eyes rolled back in his head and he stopped coughing. Ryan closed his eyes and leaned back against his chair. He looked up at the breach in the hull and thought to himself *what am I doing here? Why did I accept command? Was it only to get away from Tolok? I can't help but think that I'm not fit for command*
