During the most recent battle with
the Kelvans, Ming had suffered a major head injury. Dr. Hancock had gotten to
him just in time to treat a massive aneuryism, one which would have surely killed
him under other circumstances. Thanks to Hancock's swift attention, Ming had
recovered sufficiently and after
a few days, Ming was back on full duty.
The headaches, however, still bothered him...
"Are you okay, sir?" Benson, his lab assistant, asked. The mutant Marine had progressed rapidly after receiving the treatment Ming and Ciara had developed, and was now operating at almost normal levels. His assignments had progressed to inventory and monitoring simple experiments.
"I'm all right--just another headache, that's all," Ming replied automatically, although it was plain to Benson and the other two lab assistants that he was anything *but* all right. "What did you just say?"
"Me? I didn't say anything!"
"I heard someone saying something in an odd language. Was it either of you?" Ming asked the other two assistants. Both shook their heads. Ming suddenly put his hands up to his temples, screaming in pain...and that was the last he could remember.
Ming woke up in Sickbay, with Hancock,
Ciara, Karissa, and Benson standing over him. Hancock was sweeping a medical
scanner over Ming's head. "This is astounding--it's almost as though someone's
used a neurocortical stimulator on him. A very powerful one, at that--these
serotonin levels are
off the scale!"
Ming heard them, and tried to speak. He couldn't understand what was coming out of his mouth, though.
"What's he saying?" Hancock asked Ciara and Karissa.
"I don't know--it's almost as though he doesn't know what he's saying, or how to articulate it," Karissa responded. Ming started to convulse on the biobed. Hancock hit him with another hypospray.
Suddenly Ming's eyes began to glow, and he began to speak in deep, resonant tones. "WE ARE THE KELVANS. YOU WILL SURRENDER, OR YOU WILL DIE. THIS ONE IS NOW OUR VESSEL. SEARCH FOR HIS MIND IN FUTILITY; WE ARE IN CONTROL..."
Ciara was speechless...
"What did you do with Mr. Wang!" Benson yelled as Hancock and Karissa restrained him from grabbing Ming's near-lifeless form. Karissa thought intently at Ming.
"His personality is still there,
but it's buried...deeply buried....it's almost as though he's possessed by the
Kelvan consciousness!"
