Background | ||
Born on Starbase One after the mass evacuation of his homeworld caused by the Borg assimilation of that planet, Fai knew only aliens from the very beginning. His El-Aurian parents allowed him the traditional 200 years to decide which path his life would take; of these he required only forty, and applied to Starfleet Academy near the middle of the 24th century.
Working closely with civilian researchers, Fai became the first Federation linguist to discover the key to the Dsibarians' unique language. This achievement helped him to be accepted into the Xenopsychology branch of Starfleet Research and Intelligence, where he later worked as part of the team that developed the cerebrally-implanted version of the Universal Translator, designed to replace the older shipboard or hand-held equipment. Following his career in Intelligence, Fai retired from active duty at the age of 69 to pursue a career in the burgeoning field of professional holonovel production. However, with the opening of the Gamma Quadrant to Federation study, Fai has decided to apply for reinstatement-- this time in a position outside of research, in hopes of broadening his perspectives.

Personal | ||
At age 85, Fai still displays a spark of vitality tempered by the ever-present El-Aurian characteristic of patience. He is a perfectionist. He sees the universe from the unique perspective of age, which often compels him to try to give advice to others. This can appear as helpful or annoying, depending on the person and how well he is able to tell when he is not being useful. Anything holographic fascinates him beyond words. He lives and dies regularly in holodeck fiction.

Special Abilities | ||
The unique memory-storage processes of the El-Aurian brain allow Fai to remember the 'original' universe in the event that the timeline becomes altered. He also has a way of detecting other spacetime anomalies, though this ability operates on a less than conscious level.
