Over a dozen Jem'Hadar materialised on the outskirts of the base, each in a different location. Their arrival on the surface had been planned this way to avoid detection. Their ship was capable of evading the Federation bases limited sensor array, but it was going to be harder for the Jem'Hadar to enter the base itself undetected. Quickly each of the soldiers unpacked a small piece of equipment and set it up. Once all the devices were operational, they created a sensor jamming net that would allow them to move around the base virtually unseen. All the Jem'Hadar rendezvoused with their section leader, who checked a Padd and examined the map of the base it contained. Turning to three of his soldiers he pointed at a small building to the left of their current position beside which a single shuttle sat idle. On the map it was labelled as the bases power plant. He then pointed at the shuttle, sending another three Jem'Hadar towards it. The remaining Jem'Hadar followed their leader to the main complex. As they neared the main doors, the leader switched the image on the Padd from the map to the image of a human. According to the Padd, the human was some kind of scientists named Mitchell. Why they had been ordered to kidnap this human or what his value to the Dominion was, the Jem'Hadar soldiers did not question. All they knew was that their First had been ordered to capture this human and take him back to their base. The lead Jem'Hadar nodded to his soldiers and the first two moved towards the doors and fired repeatedly. Alarm bells rang out as the doors were smashed open and the Jem'Hadar soldiers quickly entered the buildings and started a room by room search, killing everyone that was not their target. Finally the Jem'Hadar arrived at the research lab, whilst phaser fire could be heard from outside as the base personnel attempted to fight back against the Jem'Hadar. Most of the base personnel were civilians, there were only fifteen Starfleet personnel on the base, mainly scientists and command personnel. Finally the Jem'Hadar found their target and quickly herded him and another human into a corner of the room. The lead Jem'Hadar signalled for the remained of his men to come to their location and defend them whilst they collected the equipment that was required. Finally they had the equipment listed on the Padd and the lead Jem'Hadar signalled to their vessel in orbit that they were ready to leave. The first to go were the two Federation scientists, followed by the equipment the Jem'Hadar had piled up in the corner, then the Jem'Hadar in the lab and finally the six Jem'Hadar defending the lab disappeared. As the last Dominion soldier dematerialised, several large explosions rocked the ground, the lights went out and the main building started to crumble as the explosives the Jem'Hadar had planted detonated. Above the planet, the Jem'Hadar moved swiftly away from Federation space and back towards the border with the Dominion. They had achieved their objective with no casualties on their side. Back on the surface of Juno III everything was quite once more, the only sounds the crumbling of the base and the crackle of several fires. As what was left of the base settled, several large creatures started to emerge from the bush outside the base perimeter attracted by the loud sounds and the smell of death. Their best chance of catching the Jem'Hadar had been the USS Taurus which as luck would have it, was enroute to Juno III to make a personnel change and bring more equipment. Lieutenant Commander Wayne had been attempting to contact the vessel using the sub-space transmitter aboard the base shuttle. However, something was jamming the signal and he had been forced to 'jerry-rig' the transmitter to increase the power output. Finally he had managed to get a distress message out to the Taurus and got a distorted reply. "This Lieutenant Commander Wayne. We've been ambushed by a group of Jem'Hadar soldiers. They've stolen science equipment and injured nine people and killed four. We require immediate medical assistance." <Commander, this Commander Buford Captain of the USS Taurus. We will be at your location shortly please stand by. Buford out.> Came the reply. That was the last thing Lieutenent Commander Wayne heard as the shuttle exploded. Ten minutes later, two Starfleet officers in Teal and thirteen Federation Marines materialised on the surface of Juno III, along with a great deal of medical aid. The Marines that had arrived, immediately started to split up, some helping unpack the medical kit under the supervision of the Starfleet officers, whilst the rest started to scan the rumble for survivors. Meanwhile the Jem'Hadar ran into some trouble of their own. Their sensors had detected another Dominion attack ship approaching their position. They were still within Federation space and so needed to act quickly. "Take us out of warp and prepare to attack." The Jem'Hadar First ordered. "Raise shields and prepare to fire all weapons." At first the other Jem'Hadar hesitated to carry out their First's orders, unsure why he had ordered them to fire on their own. "I was warned about this." The First replied, realising that the others were thinking about questioning his order. "They are rogue Jem'Hadar sent to prevent us from returning to the Dominion with our captives. They must be destroyed at all costs." "First, they are sending us a signal." The Jem'Hadar at the communications console announced. "They are ordering us to surrender under the direct authority of the Founders." "Have they identified themselves ?" The First enquired. "Negative, their vessel shows no clan markings and is not transmitting a security code." The communications officer replied. "As I thought, rogues." The First stated. "How long until they are in firing range ?" "Fifteen seconds." The weapons officer announced. "All torpedo tubes are loaded and phaser banks are full charged." "Fire as soon as we are in range." The First ordered. The second Dominion vessel had no chance of avoiding the assault from the Jem'Hadar and their vessel. They had been initially unprepared for the attack, the phaser fire had ripped through their shields and salvos of torpedoes finally disabled the vessel. The rogue vessel never had a chance to return fire. "Well done." The First stated to his crew. "Their warp core is overloading, they will be death within minutes. If anyone should come upon the vessel, they will blame the Federation." "First, we are detecting another vessel approaching from the direction of the Federation base." The weapons officer announced. "It's travelling at incredible speed, thirty seconds until they are in firing range." "Can you identify the vessel ?" The First enquired. "It conforms to a Federation vessel, New Orleans class." The Weapons officer reported. "They are of an old design, but adequate in battle, should I prepare to attack ?" "No, set course for our base." The First ordered. "These Federation types are predictable. They will attempt to rescue the Dominion traitors before their vessel explodes, that should be enough time for us to get out of their sensor range." Leaving the crippled Jem'Hadar vessel to its fate, they jumped to warp and back towards Dominion space once more. |
