Rahel was trying to tend people in Sickbay as best as she could, but everything was in chaos and so many were already dead. The lights were flickering and the smell of burned wreckage along with burned flesh permeated the air. Under her on a biobed was the Chief Science Officer. He had been near a console when it had erupted in his face. But no matter what she did, she couldn't stop the bleeding and she watched helpless as he died before her eyes. He had been one of many that day. Finally, she screamed out her frustration as this time, someone from her own department was brought before her. One of her best nurses . . . He too, had been caught by an explosion from the Proktolans bombardment of their ship and he wasn't fairing much better. "Don't die on me, Glen !." She cried. "Don't you died on me !." But though she worked furiously, it was to no avail. He died on the table, her hands still working on him, trying to revive him for several minutes afterwards. "NO ! This is not happening ! NO !." She cried as she looked around and saw that she was the only one alive in Sickbay. She had a sense she was the only one alive on the Baltimore ! This wasn't happening, she panicked. Suddenly, her eyes snapped open and she found herself on her bed, in her quarters on the Taurus, drenched in perspiration. Slowly, she sat up and ran a hand through her damp, blond hair. She took a deep breath and let it go trying to steady her nerves. Just as she was about to get up, the door to her quarters opened. She knew who it was since only one person had the codes to get in, other than herself. Ash immediately went to his sister. "Are you okay ?." He asked. "It was just a dream." She assured him. He took a seat next to her. "Maybe part of it, but it stems from the truth." He said. "Are you okay ?" He asked again. "I felt your distress almost as soon as the nightmare started." She sighed and shook her head, looking down to the floor. "It was that strong ?" She asked. He nodded. She took another breath in and leaned into him. Immediately, he embraced her. "I don't know what set it off . . . Maybe just everything over the last few days." Rahel said, as she stared off into the darkness, though she could see perfectly. "I would say that's a good bet." He replied. "Maybe you should speak to a counsellor ?" She shook her head immediately. "I'm fine. Really, Ash . . . I'll be okay. It was just a nightmare." He wasn't convinced, but wasn't going to make an issue of it either. At least not at the moment. "So are you ready to get back to work ?" "Well, I certainly don't want to sleep anymore !" She smirked. They both laughed softly. "Well, I'll let you get dressed. Then we can grab a snack and I'll walk you to Sickbay." "So I have an escort to boot ?" She smiled softly. "As long as you don't mind." Ash replied. "Now why would I mind ?" She replied sweetly. At that she finally stood up. "Shoo, so I can change." She laughed. "Okay, okay, I'm going !" He laughed. He stood and vanished into the other room to give his sister some privacy. As Rahel stood there, the image of the dead surrounded her for a moment, but was gone just as quickly. Taking a breath to steady her emotions, she went and grabbed a uniform to slip into. |
