The Easiest of Hard Choices

The two officers were en route back to the Taurus, which could be seen out the window of the upper promenade, significantly higher up then they were. M'eko was about to ask Lieutenant McQueen a question when he spoke up first.

"So, how long have you been interested in propulsion ?" He asked, turning his head slightly as he walked.

"Well, my main interest in life has always been propulsion. I graduated the academy as an Engineer. Warp Dynamics actually. Command came during my last posting, on the Eisenhower." She replied with a satisfied tone in her voice.

"The Eisenhower. Nebula Class ?" He asked with a glance towards her. She replied with a nod. "Too bad she was not refitted with trans-warp. You could have had a good chance to play around with it in Command there."

"Not as much as I could with my real position. I was Chief Engineer and Second Officer. Could have had a lot of good times with it." She replied.

"So, this is your first assignment in red then ?" He asked motioning to her uniform.

"First One." M'eko said back without looking at him. "Been looking forward to it for a long time though."

"Well, the Taurus is quite a ship. Good place to start a Command career." He said with a rather large smile.

As they continued talking, a comm signal came across for Lieutenant McQueen.

[Lieutenant McQueen, this is Ensign Luwall. Permission to run a level 8 systems check on our warp nacelles while at station, sir ?]

Logan looked at M'eko for a moment and replied to the message "I'm not the one to ask for that Ensign, you should ask Lieutenant J’Ross, our new Executive Officer. I understand she was just reassigned from a Chief Engineering position. And as luck would have it, she is standing right next to me. Lieutenant ?" He looked at her, trying to conceal a slight grin.

M'eko looked at Lieutenant McQueen for a moment. Then she replied to the comm. "Permission granted for a Level 7 check Ensign, we don't have the time to spare for a level 8."

[Yes, ma'am. Luwall out.]

"They say the first decision in a new Command is the hardest. Good thing that one was easy." Logan remarked to M'eko with a quick smile.

They then chose another subject to discuss on the way to the Taurus.
