Man Down

Ensign Riggins had just finished up running a level two diagnostic on all power couplings and was heading out of engineering to go to sickbay but stopped as if to forget something. Reegan walks over to Ensign Luwall.

"Hey Rachel I’ll be in sick-bay if I’m needed." He stated.

"What's wrong ? Got a touch of space sickness ?" She said with a slight grin on her face.

"No, it seems the Doc has forgotten about the routine physical exam that's required of all new crew members so that's what I’ll be taking care of for next few moments" Reegan explained.

"Okay got you covered Reegan." Ensign Luwall replied.

"Thanks Rachel" Reegan said, with a wink.

Reegan headed out of engineering into the main corridor and was about to step into the turbolift.

[All hands we are now in Yellow alert, Repeat all hands we are now in Yellow alert Report to your stations]

"Well Doc guess you'll have to wait a little bit longer." Reegan said aloud as he headed back to main engineering

"Reegan !" Rachel motioned for him to come over to the console she's standing at.

"Lieutenant Lune is on the Bridge and reports that we have detected a Dominion vessel, he wants us to get shields up as soon as we come out of transwarp."

Both Rachel and Reegan started to get back to work and come up with a course of action to get shields up as soon the Taurus drops out of transwarp.

A few minutes later.....

[Lune to Engineering]

"Riggins here sir, shields ready on your mark"

[Very good, stand by..........3..2..1.. mark, raise shields]

"Raising shields now!!" Reegan announced.

[Very Good Mister Riggins, Miss Luwall, that'll be all for the moment, Lune out]

"Well so much for your date with the Doc huh?" Rachel suggested.

"Yeah and just when the things had seemed to be going so well" Reegans stretches out his arms to give an example.

Rachel didn’t say anything but held in her laughter.

"You know...." Reegan started to say. But before he finishes.the ship rocked to one side and everything seem to be exploding around them. The only thing Reegan was worried about was to get Rachel out of harms way.

He looked up and saw a beam getting ready to fall on top of Rachel and instinctively ran to push her out of the way, just as the beam fell on him.

Only a few minutes had passed since the attack had begun. Rachel picked herself up and ran over to Reegan to see if he was alive. She took a tricorder out to scan him.

"Yes your alive but don't check out on me yet. " She told him in a firm voice.

Suddenly a voice came over the comm channel.

[Bridge to Engineering.] J’ross ordered.

"Bridge, this is Ensign Luwall here. We’ve taken major damage to all systems. The Chief is dead and we’ve got injured."

[We’ll get medical help to you soon.] J’ross announced. [What’s our status ?

"The warp core’s off-line and we’re losing life-support." Rachel reported. "What attacked us ?"

[We’re not entirely sure.] J’ross admitted. [Work on keeping life-support online and then start working on the warp core. I’d like a damage report ASAP. Bridge out.]

Rachel leaned over Reegan "You hang in there, medics will be here soon. Here this will help a little." She said taking a medkit, pulling out a hypospray and injects Reegan with it. "But I've got to get the core back online but I'll keep checking on you till help arrives."

Rachel stood up to go back to work and then quickly dropped down so her head was beside his ear.

"Oh, by the way, Thank you for saving my life.........." She whispered, rising again and heading to the life support consoles.
