"Lieutenant James Wright's personal log. Stardate 77822.6. It's been my third day aboard the Taurus and I feel like someone has thrown me into the deep end. I've spent the last three days working my butt off trying to find a clue that will lead us to the kidnapped scientists. I've thought about starting at the scientists base but I feel a little unwell to go traipsing around an abandoned science vessel." James coughed again. This cough was defiantly getting worse. But he didn't want to go and see Doctor Rahel Kahfre, he didn't need Doctor Kahfre. He didn't like Doctor's, no matter how attractive. However his train of thought was interrupted by a beep as his comm badge. He tapped it, "Wright here." It was Lieutenant Riggins, one of the ships Operations officers. [Sorry to disturb you. You have a call coming from Bajor, a Margaret Wright.] "It's my mother, I'll take it here. Wright out." He tapped his comm badge, straightened out his uniform and smoothed his hair. He sat at the table. "Computer redirect communication from Bajor, authorisation Wright Gamma 5." After a short beep the communication was redirected. His mother stared at him on the screen. "Mother. How are you ? It's good to see you again." [Is it true ?] She snapped, *Some welcome.* He thought to himself. "What's true ?" [The you are in the Gamma Quadrant chasing a bunch of rogue Jem'Hadar ?] "Yes mother ." He said pretending to tired. " .I can't say anymore. This is an Intelligence mission." Her face softened. [You should have said, I have a Dominion contact near a planet called Mirisam V. It's got a Federation colony there. I read your briefing of the mission. I wangled it from Intel. I believe that these rouge Jem'Hadar are tracking down and destroying Federation colonies. If you wait on Mirisam V, maybe you'll find them.] "Mother, how the hell did you find out about the rouge Jem'Hadar." James wondered out loud, a mistake if his mother's reaction was anything to go by, [Watch your language boy.] She snapped. *Sorry, you old hag.* He thought. "Well ?" He asked, still
awaiting an answer from his mother. "I've told you about that before mother. Your not supposed to know my command codes, remember what happened when Ambassador T'Kern found out ?." He snapped. [Watch how you talk to your mother. Anyway T'Kern was an idiot.] She snapped back. "Where's father ?" He responded icily, trying to avoid being shouted at. [He's off to Reyu III, to solve a trade dispute, the Romulans are planning a blockade of the planet and he's gone off to solve it.] "Why do the Romulans always interfere in Federation trade disputes ?" James asked rhetorically, his mother never realised. [Don't know. So what exactly is your rank and job.] "That's complicated. I'm both an Intelligence Officer, but still a diplomat, if you get what I mean." [I do ..] She was interrupted by the doorbell sounding. James wondered who it could have been. [Who is it ?] James could here his mother say as she turned away from him. [Come in.] She snapped. It was her aide Ensign Tillana, who James did not like. She snapped something at him in Bajoran, who then quickly departed. As the Ensign left she turned back towards James. [I'm going to have to go.] "Yeah. Give my love to dad. Wright out." The screen went black and he gave a huge sigh of relief. He then remembered what his mother had said. "I have to tell Captain Taybar." He said to himself. |
