Garet slumped his back up against the tree he had been posted against for almost eight hours now. He took out his canteen and took a long swig. He had just spent the last few hours posted on the edge of the forest, it was the perfect spot to view the surrounding area for miles on all sides. He was a couple miles from the rest of the crew and was sent out as recon and warning signal, incase the Jem'Hadar did show. He'd been on watch half the night and so far the Jem'Hadar had not made any further moves. He checked his tricorder and pointed it towards the crashed shuttle about three miles away. Garet shifted his head to the side as his partner came out of the emergency shelter and sat down next to him. He had gone through basic with this cadet and knew him pretty well. His name was Damion Waynewright, and they had gone to sniper school together. He was a little younger then Garet but still an excellent shot. "What's on your mind kid ?" Garet enquired the cadet. "Not much, just figured I'd keep you company." Damion replied, " You seem to have a lot on your mind, considering this is the first time you've moved in a long while." "Ha, ha You always were the perceptive one weren't you. Your right, I'm just thinking of my dad again, wondering how he is." "I'm sure your dad is very proud of you for what you're doing, he's probably smiling on you right now." Garet looked over at Damion and couldn't help but grin. He shifted his head back and stared straight up at the stars as they started to disappear little by little. He was about to turn to talk to Damion again when something caught his eye...a movement on the beach. "Damion...is that what I hope it's not ?" Damion looked right where Garet was pointing and immediately jumped up and ran back for the cover of the trees and the shelter. Garet tapped his Comm badge and said. "Private Jax to Lieutenant McQueen, They're moving, I repeat, the Jem'Hadar are moving." [Understood.] |
