Patrick Matthews

Background

Patrick was only eight years old when he lost his mother and father to the Nexus in 2293. He and 108 refugees were pulled from the transport ship just before the ship exploded. Patrick was adopted by Lieutenant Peter Matthews five months later and he renamed the boy after his father Patrick.

Patrick journeyed to Earth to live with his adopted mother while his father served on the Enterprise-B. Patrick did well in school and was fond of music. At the age of 16, Patrick enrolled in a Music school and stayed for several years, but grew bored. In 2309 Patrick was told of his heritage and that he would live a long time and not age as rapidly as humans. Patrick applied to Star Fleet Academy but was turned down because of his lack of science knowledge. He was told to study and return in a year.

Being impatient, Patrick enlisted in Star Fleet in 2312. Patrick attended basic training and enrolled in the Tactical Department, first serving onboard the USS Cairo, a newly launched Excelsior class ship. The Cairo served as a patrol ship for three years and charted the areas such as Risa. In 2316, now a Petty Officer, Patrick transferred to Engineering hoping to learn more Science so he could reapply to the Academy. He spent two years in Engineering school and did extremely well, finishing first. He was then posted on Star Base 43 as an Engineer. In 2320, feeling bored with his career in Engineering he transferred to Tactical once again, serving on the USS Intrepid for five years. For the next 20 years Patrick was bored and just seemed to buy his time.

In 2345 he retired as a Chief Petty Officer and signed onto the Colony Program where he helped build colonies using his Engineer skills. He became quite a contractor.

In 2349 the Setlik Massacre started what would be called the Border Wars with Cardassia. Using the Inactive reserve clause, Patrick was recalled to active duty. Over the next six years Chief Matthews proved his worth and was decorated twelve times by Star Fleet. In 2355 Patrick was assigned to teach Engineering at the Engineering school where he stayed for sixteen years, achieving the rank of Command Master Chief. In 2371 he help build the first two Sovereign class ships. This brought much joy to the Chief. During the Dominion War Chief Matthews saw four campaigns and was decorated five times for his actions. Promoted to Warrant Officer, Matthews was sent to Star Fleet HQ on Earth where he served various duties. In 2383 he oversaw the construction of the USS Hornet. After its completion in late 2384, he was assigned as third Engineer.

After 72 years in Star Fleet, Warrant Officer Matthews is considered a well rounded and experienced officer. He has seen many changes in technology.

He's a neat freak. Loves to have problems to fix. Hates being left in the dark. Likes to know everything.
