Axeline Joxal Redinium

Background

Axeline Joxal Redinium’s exact origins are a mystery, even to him. Found in an abandoned and heavily damaged shuttle within the Briar Patch by the crew of the Enterprise-E in 2375, he has no memory of where he is from. What is even more amazing is the fact that the shuttle was from the USS Columbus, a Constellation class vessel with which Starfleet lost contact in 2284. Along with Axeline were the bodies of the First Officer, Chief Science Officer and the Auxiliary Helm officer. All had died from starvation and the fact that the shuttle had been caught in a gravitational eddy.

Axeline only survived because of his ability to send his body into a state of deep hibernation. As well as this, he also has the ability to repair and replace his body tissues. When he was found, he had damage to his liver and kidneys, plus a severe head trauma. Within two days, his damaged liver and kidneys had been healed, but Doctor Crusher aboard the Enterprise was forced to treat the head trauma before Axeline became brain-dead. Because of the head trauma, Axeline has little recollection of his past. His last memories are of the shuttle crew finding the wreckage of the USS Columbus and then the shuttle being attacked.

The records of the shuttle confirm that the USS Columbus had been exploring the far side of the Briar Patch for some ten years before being attacked by an unknown force. The reason the shuttle survived was it had been on a long-range survey mission and found the wreckage of the ship adrift upon its return. Taking what supplies they could carry, the crew of the shuttle headed back towards the Alpha Quadrant, but were attacked possibly by the same force that attacked the Columbus. Heavily damaged, the crew flew into the Briar Patch to try and evade their attackers and got caught in the gravitational eddy, which trapped them for the next eighty years.

Studies of Axeline have shown that he possesses some kind of internal energy, which his body can use to heal himself. As Axeline started to make a new life for himself within the Federation, he realised that he could also use this energy to heal others, although at great cost to himself. Wanting to be able to help those in need of medical attention, he joined Starfleet Academy and enrolled into the Medical programme. After spending four years learning medicine, he graduated with Majors in advanced regenerative techniques and xenobiology.

His first assignment was on Starbase 612, a planetary station on the Cardassian border with the Federation. After two years he became the Assistant Medical Officer and gained a promotion to the rank of Lieutenant Junior Grade. Now three years on after hearing of the USS Hornet’s mission to explore the far side of the Briar Patch and the newly acquired space, Axeline requested a transfer. This was granted giving him the position of Chief Medical Officer aboard the USS Hornet, along with a promotion to Full Lieutenant.

Although Axeline looks human, his body structure and chemistry is totally different. He has two hearts and two livers, plus three kidneys and a dual spinal column. His lung capacity is also twice that of an average human.

Personality

Standing near two metres tall, he makes for a foreboding figure in sickbay, although his bedside manner is excellent. In fact he has a very ‘humanitarian’ attitude to life, something that has got him into trouble many times. As well as his medical skills, he is also an accomplished pilot and quite the athlete helped by his anatomy. He’s also shown a remarkable leadership quality, something that he was considering before turning to medicine.

Additional Notes

Axeline has an ulterior motive for wanting to join this mission, hoping maybe to find some of the answers to the questions. Who am I? Where am I from? Whether he will get these answers only the gods can tell.
