As soon as the dinner was over and she could find a private moment to speak with Commodore Wallace about her findings. As they entered his temporary quarters, he watched as she pulled out her tricorder and began scanning the room.
"What are you doing, Lieutenant?" he asked, curiously.
"Let's just say I'm making sure that the room is to your satisfaction, Sir," she replied. Just then, the tricorder picked something up on the desk. She began searching when she found a very small device on the corner. She pointed it out to him.
"I see what you mean," he replied.
With ease she shorted it out. "Now we can talk. I didn't detect any other ones."
"Okay then," he replied, "What have you discovered?"
"Well, I am very uneasy about these people. They are telepathically blocking my thoughts and they seem to be doing this on purpose. I was given further proof of this when their Researcher First Class Daklo contacted me telepathically and told me that this was all a charade for our benefit, and that's when my tour was mysteriously cut short. Also, some of their research is significantly behind the Federation's and when I did pick up stray thoughts they were less than amiable. They suggested research into weaponry and there were several stray thoughts about the Mullurans."
"I haven't trusted these people since we got here," Wallace said. "They just seemed too perfect, if you know what I mean. We'll have to compare notes with Okul and see what he's found."
"I don't want to stay down here, sir. If the Mullurans are using the Niprons as proxies, then we could end up hostages they can use as leverage against the Federation."
"That won't happen. Wallace to Lataro, come in," Wallace said as he tapped his combadge.
[Lataro here.]
"I need to speak with Commander Chee."
[He's not here. I sent him to answer a distress call. It seems that a colony ship was hit by a Mulluran mine while passing through Nipron space.]
Wallace and Jenara looked at each other with alarm.
[Is everything okay there?]
"For the moment, yes. But stand by. If you should stop hearing from us, don't hesitate to use force to resolve the situation. It would appear that our Nipron friends are a bit more than they claim to be."
