[Captain Mallory, sorry to interrupt, but we are receiving an urgent distress call from the USS Hornet.]
"I'll be right out. Looks like your ship is under attack, Major." Mallory and the Major stepped out of her office and into Ops.
"Let's hear the message, Mister Razek."
[Starbase 901, this is the USS Hornet. We have been attacked by Mulluran fighters in the Nipron system. We are heavily damaged and cannot go to warp. Request immediate assistance. Situation is extremely hostile.]
"Is there any more?"
"No Captain, that's all we got."
"Razek. What starships do we have currently docked here that we could send to help them?"
"The Ronin is docked at port seventeen Ma'am."
"Any other ships, Ensign? The Ronin has it's own mission."
"There's the Leo then in that case. Nowhere near as equipped as the Ronin would be for such a situation, but she'll have to do, Captain."
"Get me the Captain of the Leo on screen."
"Working, Captain...."
The image of an elderly, overweight Bolian appeared on the massive viewscreen in Ops.
[Captain Mallory, how can I serve you?]
"Commander Bertzul, we have just received a distress call from the USS Hornet in the Nipron system. I am launching the Leo immediately on a rescue mission."
[Captain, you are aware that we are not equipped for a rescue mission right now? How about the USS Ronin?]
"Out of the question, Commander. Ideally, I would have sent the Ronin, but I am sending you instead. Please make preparations to leave ASAP."
[Aye Captain. Bertzul out.]
"Captain, I'd like to join the Leo's crew," asked the tall Bajoran Major next to Captain Mallory.
"I can't send you... You're too valuable."
"Captain, I'm a diplomat. Just like you used to be. Danger is our middle names."
Mallory sighed, knowing that she wouldn't be able to keep the Major from boarding the Leo "Very well. Mr. Razek, inform the Leo that they will be receiving a passenger."
"Aye ma'am."
"Good luck, Major."
Major Larn arrived aboard the Leo and was swiftly escorted to the bridge. This was his first time aboard a Sabre class starship, and they certainly lived up to their reputations of small ships.
"Commander, Major Larn is aboard," announced Larn's escort.
"Right, we can get underway then," grumbled the old man. "Sickbay, is Lieutenant Rembrant fit to return to duty?"
[Negative sir, he's still not conscious.]
"I'll have to take the helm myself then," said the man struggling up out of his chair.
Seeing the difficulty, Yasnyl stepped forward and offered his help. "Excuse me, I could take the helm if you like.... I'm one of Bajor's best pilots...."
"Be my guest, Major, " said the Bolian, collapsing back into his seat.
I guess he doesn't get out of that seat much, thought the Major as he took his seat at the helm. He noticed the smirk on the Ops officer next to him. Betazoid, he though. The officer replied with a nod of her head.
"I'm Lieutenant Parul Drent," she smiled, seemingly blushing.
"Major Larn Yasnyl, my friends call me Yaz."
"Major, I'll remove you from that position if you don't stop chatting up my officers!" snapped the Bolian Commander.
"But I...."
"No excuses, young man. Take us out."
Yaz sighed and tapped the commands into the helm. The small ship broke away from its docking port and moved out slowly, spinning around in a few seconds and coming to a stop facing the exact opposite direction. "You can imagine I was the instructor's favorite student at the Academy," smiled Yaz at the Betazoid next to him."
"What the hell was that, Major?!?" demanded the Bolian.
"Relax," said Yaz, as he plotted a course outside the starbase. As soon as they were clear, the Leo jumped into warp to the aid of the Hornet.
