"It's Over I Think"

Author: Chief Warrant Officer Patrick Matthews
Earthdate: December 19, 2384
Location: Planet

Sounds of battle were dying out and the cries and moans of the wounded began to fill the air. Every now and then an occasional phaser shot was fired. The ground was strewn with dead Mullurans. The trench where Chief Matthews was forced to pull back to was now a collection point for wounded and a holding position.

"Chief there are about 12 men that need to be evacuated to the Hornet ASAP. If not they will die for sure." A young human male petty officer wearing blue with 2 chevrons on his collar. Patrick looked at him and gave a blank stare, for he was in pain and knew that communications were down with the Hornet for some reason.

"Listen Doc, do what you can. Treat those casualties first leg and shoulder wounds can wait. Give those who need plasma first priority." That was all he could think of at the moment.

Then a Phaser blast was herd in the background. The chief was sitting in the back of the trench now stood up peaked ahead at the fort that was now smoking from almost all places.

[Chief Matthews come in.] Patrick tapped his comm. badge.

"Yes, who is this?"

[Captain Lataro.]

"Oh right sir, sorry."

[I'm taking over for Okul with a house to house search in the Fort. The Ensign tells me your team is bad shape. How are you holding up?]

"Well about 7 are all that's alive unhurt. 12 Are badly wounded, 5 wounded but able to hold on and keep going sir." Matthews looked over at what was now left of his team.

[Ok, the fighting seems to be over most of the Mullurans have either surrendered or been killed. I'm sending a medic and Okul's team your way with about 13 prisoners. They should be over in about 16 minutes. Lataro out.]

Patrick sat back down his shoulder hurting now that the pain killer wore off. He looked over at his team and saw some sort of pride in those who were alive. He figured out they were proud of what they had done this time. Heck he was proud they seemed to inflict more casualties then they did on a larger force. Pat pulled out his canteen and took a sip.

"Hey were coming out don't shoot."

"Pat turned around and stood up looked around and couldn't see anyone. "Identify yourself." Pat said pointing his hand phaser at the gates gapping hole.

"Okul, Ensign."

"Step out slowly so you can be seen." Matthews was not going to be ambushed as the fighting was over. All he knew was that the enemy had monitored communications and was trying to trick him. Slowly a Cardassian stepped out his face dirty with a scratch on the right cheek.

Patrick gave a sigh of relief, and motioned with his good hand to move forward. Okul's team was now only 11 people, as he made his way to the trench. Followed by three medics.

Okul jumped into the trench and then took a seat using the back of the trench as a back rest he took a deep breath and then looked over at the chief's face that was now dirty, covered in scratches and blood. Chief Matthews sat next to him and patted his fellow crewmate on the left shoulder.

"You did good kid. You should be proud of yourself." Matthews said handing over his half empty canteen.

"Thank you chief." Okul responded taking a sip.
