The Knight was traveling at transwarp speed of 10.2, and everyone was on board either getting unpacked or on duty. The bridge crew was at the stations they were assigned to.
Meanwhile, Tunis was testing the sensors and running a test scan. The sensors were performing correctly and satisfied Ensign Tunis.
"Sir, we will reach the outskirts of Cardassian space in 14 hours," Ensign Harris said from the Ops station.
Tunis turned to see the turbolift door slide open and Ensign MacLeod step out onto the bridge. Several people turned and stared in distrust to see a Jem'Hadar in a Starfleet uniform, let alone an officer.
MacLeod handled it well. He didn't even pay attention to the stares as he walked over to the command chair where Commodore Pike was and stopped in front of him saying, "Ensign MacLeod reporting for duty sir." He then handed Pike a PADD.
Pike took the PADD and read MacLeod's record briefly and the orders. "Stand easy Ensign. Says here your assignment is security." Pike waited for the Jem'Hadar to reply.
"Yes sir."
"Good. I know Jem'Hadar are very faithful, so I feel comfortable knowing you're doing what you're good at, Ensign. Carry on."
The Jem'Hadar stood at attention and walked back towards Tunis.
Tunis smiled and said, "Meet me in ten forward at 1800 hours."
"Very well," MacLeod responded.
The day went by slowly, but finally 1800 came around and Tunis was off duty, and was heading for ten forward. In ten forward he saw MacLeod sitting at a table facing the window drinking from a coffee cup and reading a PADD.
Tunis went over to the replicator and ordered a beer and walked over and sat down in front of MacLeod. "Hey! How's it going Mac?" Tunis used to call him 'Mac' back at the academy and MacLeod didn't seem to mind it.
"It was a busy day, Tunis. I arrested two crewmen who fought over the stupidest thing."
Tunis seemed interested and wanted to know what it was about. "What were they fighting over?"
"A girl. One thought the other one was trying to steal her away from him."
Tunis laughed. "And what did you do to end the fighting?"
"I arrested them both and stuck them in the same holding cell. I told them if they fight while in there I would hog tie them."
Tunis laughed and took a drink from his beer, "Well Mac, that's nothing major, and fighting over a girl isn't a big thing. By morning those two will feel stupid and be the best of friends once more."
Mac sat back and shook his head and said. "Come morning I'll release them and tell the XO about this incident."
