"Captain Neil?" asked Ensign Beckett.
"Yes Ensign," said Captain Neil.
"Sensors are detecting an unidentified ship entering the system," said Beckett.
Captain Neil spoke into the intercom, "Commodore Pike, we have a problem. And I think you better come out here."
Commodore Pike came onto the bridge from his ready room and walked towards Neil and Beckett.
"What's the problem?" asked the Commodore.
"An unknown ship has entered sensor range," said Neil.
"Have you tried hailing them?" asked Pike.
"We did sir. No response. Sensors aren't reading any living life forms," said Beckett.
"We should investigate this now. Ensign Beckett. I want you, Ensign MacLeod, and Linn Haakon to beam over there. Collect whatever data you can from the computers and look for survivors," said Pike.
"Yes sir," said Beckett.
The away team from the Knight beamed over into a hallway on the mysterious ship.
"Let's split up. We'll cover more of the ship that way," said Beckett.
The three of them went off in different directions. Beckett found his way to the bridge and looked around. He pushed some buttons on a console and activated the computer.
"Computer," Beckett began, "What is the status of the ship?"
<............>
"Computer? Terrific," said Beckett in a sarcastic tone.
[Haakon to Beckett,] said Haakon.
"Beckett here. What is it?" he asked.
[MacLeod and I are in what I think is the science lab. You'd better get down here,] she said.
"On my way," said Beckett.
As Beckett walked off the bridge, something strange occurred. In the hallway he was in, Beckett started to shake. He looked around and saw the hall was shaking like there was earthquake. After several minutes the shaking stopped. He looked around and started to run to the science lab.
Beckett entered the science lab and saw a body lying on the table.
"What is that?" asked Beckett.
"It could be a member of the crew. We have no way of knowing," said Haakon.
"Okay. Look I need to talk to you. As I was coming down here the hall started to shake like some kind of earthquake. Did you or MacLeod feel anything?" asked Beckett.
"No. But I think I have an answer for your 'earthquake,'" she said.
Haakon walked over to a console.
"This console is registering some kind of gas in the air. This gas causes life forms to imagine things. It feels real. It looks real. But it isn't real. Like a mirage. Since we're humans it will affect us somewhat often. But MacLeod might not experience anything soon because he's a Jem'Hadar," she said.
"Okay. Well I doubt we'll be staying long. What happened to this body?" asked Beckett.
"He appears to have a broken neck. Probably killed him instantly. Did you find anything out from the computer?" she asked.
"No. I think we should just get off this ship and call it a loss," said Beckett.
Suddenly, a panel exploded near Ensign MacLeod. The explosion knocked him to the ground. Beckett and Haakon ran over to him.
"MacLeod. Are you all right? He's out cold," said Haakon.
"Will he be all right?" asked Beckett.
"He'll be fine. But when he wakes up, he going to have a big headache," said Haakon, "But we should get him back to the ship right away."
"Just what I had in mind. Beckett to Knight. Requesting transport," said Beckett.
[This is Comm.... Pike.... We didn't quite.... your... ssage... What... wrong.....] The message broke off completely there.
"Beckett to Knight. This a Priority One Alert. Get us out of here," said Beckett.
[...........................]
"Something's jamming our transmission," said Haakon.
"What could be jamming our transmission? Sensors didn't pick up anything alive on this ship," said Beckett.
Suddenly, Haakon and Beckett heard something fall over and hit the ground. Then they saw a dark shadow, that kept growing and growing.
"Another mirage?" asked Beckett.
"I don't want to find out. Let's get out of here," said Haakon.
The two grabbed MacLeod and ran out of the science lab. They made it to a mess hall before they stopped running. They put MacLeod down and sealed the way in with some loose boards and chairs.
"What do you think is going on?" asked Beckett.
"I think there is something alive on this ship. Something our sensors couldn't detect. And if there is something here, it may have killed the crew of this ship," said Haakon.
"And we may be next," said Beckett in a low voice.
