Lieutenant JG Tumock was in a state of meditation when the computer sounded a subtle alarm. Tumock opened his eyes and quickly got to his feet. As he approached the front of the ship, Ensign Tyran Nige informed that a ship was in the vicinity. He checked the sensors to show a Federation vessel, Galaxy Class Mark 2. It was the Knight. Momentarily after that, the Knight hailed them.
< Federation ship, Peregrine Class, you are clear to dock in shuttle bay 1. >
"Acknoledged, preparing to dock within 2 minutes," responded Tumock.
Soon they docked and opened the ship's main door. They were greeted by an eager Lieutenant Lee Carter rushing in.
"Morning Lieutenant, I had no idea that we were to be greeted on arrival," said the slightly confused Tumock, but Ensign Tyran was as eager to get off the ship as Carter was to get on.
"Wha...? Oh yeah, welcome aboard Lieutenant." Her eyes were locked on the ship.
"I see by your response that you are the ex-fighter pilot that wishes to upgrade the current Peregrine Class," Tumock said to cover up her slight embarrasment.
"I'm sorry, Lieutenant...."
"Tumock."
"Tumock, it's just that I have eagerly been awaiting this moment for a long time."
"I understand."
"Look, I don't want to get off on the wrong foot, how about lunch, say about 1700?"
"I will be there."
"Good, maybe we will become friends," replied Carter as she wandered into the ship. Tumock stayed for a second with admiration. It was not often he had seen such an eager officer. He then turned and walked towards the exit of the ship. Tumock noticed Ensign Tyran was getting restless at the bottom of the ramp and so quickly caught up to him. They noticed that Commodore Pike was also here, so they both headed torwards him. As they came within a few steps away they snapped to attention and Tumock handed Commordore Pike a PADD with their orders.
"Lieutenant Tumock and Ensign Tyran reporting for duty, sir," said the now perfectly straight Tumock. The commodore welcomed them aboard and told them when their first shift was. After a quick briefing the two young officers were dismissed and headed for the shuttle bay doors, a crewman standing next to it came to attention and Tumock gave him a nod as he exited.
Tumock entered his quarters, the room was dark and he called the computer to activate the lights. He walked in and looked around, the room was small but adequate and Tumock proceeded to unpack his belongings before getting as much rest as he could before his shift. The alarm sounded some hours later and Tumock opened his eyes as wide as he could, he then swung his legs around, sat up and rubbed his eyes. He decided to take a sonic shower before getting changed and meeting with Lieutenant Carter. When he had changed into something acceptable he proceded to the turbolift.
As he was about enter Ten Forward he asked the computer for the time.
< 1659. >
With that Tumock entered. He looked around to a room of unknown faces, until he spotted an empty table. He then walked to the replicator and ordered a black coffee. The coffee materialized and he picked it up, he then turned and walked over to the empty table he had spotted. Tumock rested himself into the chair and began sipping on the coffee. He pulled his mouth back a little and remembered the way his mother used to make him coffee. Somehow replicated coffee never tasted as good. Then at that moment Lieutenant Carter walked in, looked around and spotted Tumock. She walked over and sat down.
"Sorry I'm late, but I was trying to get the circuit relays to accept the increased amount of power."
"Shall we get our lunch?" replied Tumock. With that they stood up and walked to the replicator. Carter was very intelligent and quite logical. Tumock was surprised by her intelligence and found himself immersed in conversation with her.
After about an hour Tumock realised that he had drunk his coffee, this then reminded Carter that she had work to do. She stood up. "Well, I had better be going now to continue working on the ship".
"I too must go to get rest," replied Tumock.
"We should do this again Tumock," smiled Carter, as she headed for the door eager to get back to the ship. Tumock picked up his empty cup and put it back in the replicator, the rplicator lit up and the cup dematerialised. He then turned and exited Ten Forward and headed for his quarters.
As the doors oppened, Tumock was once again greeted by darkness.
