As the senior officers left the conference room Tumock was in a deep trance, going over the conversation again and again: "What if you were to try to absorb an energy beam from the battle planet, could you transfer it directly to our shields or even deflect it back to them?" was the question that Commodore Pike had asked, and Tumock could not stop thinking about. As Tumock arrived at his station he quickly went through a check of the ship and the planet. Satisfied that all was well he lifted his head to see the Commodore sit in his seat.

"This is the Commodore speaking. We will be attempting an escape plan to get us back to Earth before the Kelvans. I want all personal ready in 12 hours."

Tumock realized that he could not do anything until engineering were ready to run tests, so Tumock left his post and walked to the front of the bridge and next to the Commodore. "Sir, I have an idea that may assist us in the confrontation, but we'll need to use a holodeck to test my theories," asked Tumock.

"Well, we'll need all the help we can get in this escape so I will let you run your tests, but be ready to report to the bridge when needed," replied the Commodore.

"Thank you sir." With that Tumock walked to the turbolift and headed to Sick bay.

As Tumock arrived at the doors to Sick bay, they slid open to reveal the doctor doing what seemed to be some kind of experiment. "Aaaahh, Tumock how can I help you?" asked the doctor.

"I wish to ask some questions," replied Tumock.

"Ask away."

"First of all, when you transfer energy through your body, does it cause physical damage to you?"

"No, apart from feeling a bit woozy afterwards."

"May I have a complete scan result of your Physiology?"

"May I ask why?"

"I believe I can use the information to assist us."

"Ok then, but remember this is confidential."

"Thank you doctor." Tumock takes the report from the doctor and leaves Sick bay. As the doors close behind him he taps his commbadge. "Ensign Beckett, can you please report to holodeck 2."

[On my way Lieutenant,] comes the quick reply.

When Tumock arrived at holodeck 2 he began creating a new program. After approximately fifteen minutes he was joined by Ensign Beckett. "How can I help you sir?" asked Beckett.

"Please wait a minute." After a little while Tumock had finished and he walked to the center of the holodeck. "Computer initiate program 'Tumock Test 1'."

With that the holodeck walls shimmered away and the two crewmembers found themselves in a holographic representation of engineering. Tumock turned to Beckett. "In the last meeting we discussed how to escape using the doctor, and he expressed his remarkable abilities. During the conversation it was suggested that the doctor could redirect or to be more precise 'reflect' fire power."

"And?" asked Beckett.

"Being that the doctor is a living humanoid being he will get tired or even hurt in the process, I believe it could be possible to set up an artificial 'reflecting' process with our shields. That is why I need your tactical expertise."

"That may work." Beckett walked over to a console and started accessing the shield grid. "But we'll have to find some way to transfer the huge amounts of energy."

"If we took the deflector dish offline we can use its system to handle the huge amounts of energy, seeing that the deflector dish is designed to handle large amounts."

"You know, that could work, but without the deflector dish we won't be able to go into warp."

"We will not be able to use it here, but when we arrive at earth we should have enough time to reconfigure the systems for a 'last stand'," replied Tumock as he also started to tap away at a computer console.

"It will give us a fighting chance, let's give it a go."

"Thank you ensign."

Many hours passed and the two crewmembers finally started to get more positive results from the holodeck program.

"Go to red alert and raise the reflective shielding!" shouted Pike.

"Shields up and stable," replied Tumock.

"They're firing!" shouted Beckett. The bridge shook.

"88% of their fire was redirected back, we have taken damage to decks 9-11. Suggest using the warp coils to handle the extra energy."

"Do it," replied Pike.

"Warp coils configured," replied Tumock.

"They're firing again!" shouted Beckett.

"97% fire power reflected, minor damage. "Tumock looked at Beckett. "We've done it."

Beckett looked back and smiled. "Computer, save program and shut down."

"Let's get these configurations to the Commodore," said Tumock as he transferred the data to a PADD.

As they arrived on the bridge the captain was walking past the turbolift doors on her way to the command chair. "Captain," said Tumock to get her attention. "Where is the commodore?"

"In his ready room," the captain replied.

"Thank you," said Tumock and walked to the door. He rang the 'bell' and was soon invited in.

"Lieutenant, Ensign, what can I do for you?" asked the commodore.

"We would like you to look at this sir." Tumock hands Pike the PADD. "It will allow us to last longer against an attack."

"But we don't know the fire power of the moons," replied Pike.

"We know sir, but the new configurations are designed to withstand high energy weapons."

"The idea does appear to be sound, but it will mean losing warp all together."

"We know, this is designed to actually help us fight the planet when it has arrived at Earth. There should be just enough time to set this up."

"I'll look over it. When we get there, be prepared to get this done as soon as possible."

"Yes sir," replied the two officers.

[Bridge to Commodore Pike.]

"Yes captain, go ahead," replied Pike.

[All personal report ready.]

"I'm on my way." The commodore then looks at the two officers. "Dismissed." Then he follows them out onto the bridge.
