"Combat First Hand"

Author: Lieutenant Lunis Tunis
Stardate: 60912
Earthdate: November 29, 2383
Location: Deck 15, runabout Rhine

The Knight was being hit by weapons from all over, but somehow the ship was holding together well. The Knight had been boarded as well by a lot of Kelvans - more than Lieutenant Tunis could count.

He found himself on Deck 15, caught in front of a Kelvan boarding party that had taken human form. Tunis was working with a group of Security officers, the Kelvans were trying to find the ship's Main Engineering section.

Tunis and eight other officers were forming a line of defense as best as they could. Tunis took three Kelvans down with his phaser. He then looked to his right and saw the lead security officer get hit in the chest and fall backwards.

Then three more Security officers were hit. Tunis, feeling a sense of rage he had never felt before, picked up a wounded Security officer's phaser rifle and shot the remaining Kelvans.

Tunis checked three of the wounded crewmates to see if they were all right. Two had died already and a third was badly injured. He picked him up and put him over his shoulders and told the remaining team members to follow him.

Then a blast hit the Knight sending the officers including Tunis to the deck. Tunis and one Security officer were the only ones to rise to their feet. The lights in the hallway were out, but all the small fires made it easy to see.

I hope to get out of this alive, Tunis thought to himself.

Meanwhile, the runabout Rhine was having it's hands full.

MacLeod was manning the Ops station on the runabout and the tactical station. "Come to 36 degrees hard to port," he said to the helm officer. MacLeod then ducked as the runabout took another hit from a Kelvan fighter. A few conduits exploded, sending sparks everywhere.

"Shields are off line. Weapons are at 56%. We can't take much more," MacLeod said with a certain worry tone in his voice.

Then an explosion caused the young Ensign at the Helm to fly out of his chair and land on his head, killing him instantly.

Two Kelvans then beamed aboard the Rhine both in the shape of humans. MacLeod pulled his phaser out and vaporized one quickly. Kelvan number two quickly slammed his weapon across MacLeod's face causing him to fall back but not down. Mac quickly tackled him to the ground and smashed his face into the deck of the Rhine.

Another Ensign had taken the place of the one that was killed. He made a comment to lighten the mood. "Come on Mac, am I all alone here."

MacLeod stood up and walked over and sat next to the Ensign and started to transfer Tac and Ops to helm.

The Ensign turned to see Mac's eye cut open and blood running down his face. "Let's find us some weaker targets 'til we get some of the systems back up."

"No need. I've transferred replicator power and power from the transporter. Our shields are at 67%. Weapons - we've got a few shots left on the phasers, six torpedoes left."

"All right. coming to heading 34 degrees starboard."
