"For the Last Time - Part 2"

Author: Lieutenant Kira Markos
Stardate: 60912
Earthdate: November 29, 2383
Location: Bridge, Kira's Quarters

As the timer finally reached zero and activated Tyran's diversion, Kira Markos silently prays to the Prophets to help him complete his plan.

Up on the bridge: "Commodore, I'm detecting an area of space that contains high amounts of chronometric disturbances," states Tumock from the Operations console.

"Short range sensors are confirming the disturbances all around us, sir," says Taylor as he frantically tries to assess the situation.

"Why didn't the long range sensors pick up on these disturbances?" asks Pike.

"Unknown sir, it seems that we are surrounded. I recommend that we reduce speed and try to avoid getting trapped by one of the anomalies," says Tumock.

"Drop to one-quarter impulse, Ensign Beckett."

"Aye, Sir."

"Sir?"

"Yes, Mr. Tumock," responds Pike in a somewhat terse voice. I don't need this now!

"A spatial anomaly is forming right in front of us, we can't avoid it!"

"Red Alert! Shields to maximum, disable the chronometric shielding now, there's no telling how that is going to interfere with what we're up against! Conventional shields only!" shouts Captain Neil.

"Aye Ma'am," responds Beckett.

Throughout this confusion Kira is concentrating in his quarters trying to focus his energies on shaping time and space. Recalling how he first initiated his original portal on Earth, he is reminded of his last thoughts: to find the origin of his people. Now he concentrates on the area of space between Cardassia and Bajor as he sees the real time space rift open just in front of the Knight. The portal is much more stable now. Markos can see the familiar stars of Bajoran space beyond the confines of the rift. As he concentrates on the portal he sees its width increase to encompass the two remaining starships in the makeshift fleet. As long as the edges of the ships don't come in contact with the confines of the portal we should have a smooth ride.

"Commodore, we can't swerve to avoid it, we're moving too fast!" says Beckett from behind his console.

Why did this have to happen now? thinks Pike to himself.

"Sir, the other ships are caught in the portal as well!"

"We're lost." Says Pike as he slumps to his chair in the center of the bridge he watches the view screen as the small fleet is engulfed in the spatial rift and with the passage of each ship the hopes of saving Earth slowly slips away.
